Description

 Virnig Manufacturing operates multiple plant locations, each staffed with a Manufacturing Engineering team to support current operations and facilitate growth. The Manufacturing Engineer for our Fort Madison Iowa facility will play a critical role in launching a new manufacturing operation.  


As a Manufacturing Engineering Technician, you will implement improvements to the manufacturing process, maximize efficiency by analyzing layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods and workforce utilization. Determine parts and tools needed in order to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specifications. This position will have responsibilities in the manufacturing side of new product development.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing, evaluating, improving and documenting manufacturing processes.  
  • Assist in developing and implementing processes for quality control that are ingrained in the manufacture of the products and allow for management by exception.  
  • Auditing manufacturing process flows continually for the enhancements of safety, quality, delivery and cost reduction.  
  • Collaborating with management and design engineering regarding product tooling and design to ensure effective production methods can be achieved.  
  • Working closely with the manufacturing leads to develop, coordinate, and implement technical training for employees.  
  • Assist in designing and developing manufacturing processes for enhancements, product changes, new products, and related fixtures and tooling that are consistent with zero defect level and low product cost.  
  • Provide technical support for production to troubleshoot and resolve problems.  
  • Be involved in capital planning and have responsibility in tracking and implementation.  
  • Support company policies and procedures, goals and objectives, Environmental, Health, and Safety regulations, and good manufacturing practices.  
  • Work overtime as needed  
  • All other duties assigned  
  • Be cooperative, positive, and respectful with management, leads, coworkers and team.  


Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Engineering experience or education in manufacturing related field or 2 years minimum work experience in a manufacturing or production environment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to grasp modern technology
  • Strong working knowledge of production systems.  
  • Experience in Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, 3D CAD experience preferred.
  • Experience programming/operating CNC equipment, robotics, and/or PLC’s is a plus.
  • Lean manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of skid steer and excavator attachments is a plus.
  • Willingness to work adjusted schedules as needed to support production.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to move about between offices and attend meetings which may include ascending or descending stairs. 
  • Ability to stand for extended periods on concrete floors.
  • Lifting and carrying of materials or equipment weighing up to 75 pounds. 
  • Hearing and speech ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone using the English language.  
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to operate standard office equipment such as a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, copier, and printer with precision and efficiency.
