Work Location: Hybrid—three days remote and two days in-office. *This role requires regular on-site client or field visits, including on days scheduled for remote work. Employees may work from home before or after site visits, depending on scheduling and operational needs.


Position & Company Description:  

New Ecology, Inc. seeks candidates for the position of Senior Project Manager in its Boston office. The Senior Project Manager will be a part of the Green Building Division which works on high-performance new construction and major renovation building projects. The Senior Project Manager will work directly with property owners and real estate development teams to improve the performance, occupant health and resiliency of multifamily buildings. The work requires technical architectural and mechanical competency, knowledge of building science and green building practices/technologies, experience with the implementation of energy efficiency improvement strategies, and working experience managing Green Building certification projects. In addition to execution of direct consulting services, the Senior Project Manager will eventually manage and mentor a small team of Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers. The Senior Project Manager is expected to coordinate with the Directors and Principal Director as it relates to business development and client deliverables, and will collaborate extensively with other technical staff across the company’s offices.


Duties and Responsibilities

The Senior Project Manager will manage green building projects from pre-design through construction to operations optimization and be responsible for client relations, internal and external team member coordination and communication, schedules and budgets, oversight of technical resources, and delivery of New Ecology’s work products. Specific project management related tasks for the Senior Project Manager may include:

  • Leading efforts to identify and target feasible, cost-effective sustainable design and performance strategies;
  • Directly managing a suite of projects and overseeing the work of others;
  • Attending project meetings and leading discussions on relevant sustainability issues;
  • Developing energy efficiency and renewable energy strategies for new construction and renovation projects;
  • Reviewing technical documents like building plans, specifications, and submittals to ensure that green design intent and certification requirements are incorporated and that green features are buildable;
  • Educating team members on and facilitating, documenting, and tracking compliance with green building rating systems, such as LEED, Passive House, Enterprise Green Communities, and Energy Star;
  • Performing construction site inspections to ensure that projects are built as designed, that program requirements are met, and that problems are identified and resolved to the owner’s satisfaction;
  • Conducting post-occupancy evaluations of projects to ensure they perform as intended;
  • Securing grants and rebates for clients, including writing proposals, working with utility representatives, and filing rebate forms;
  • Representing clients before government agencies in permitting and compliance discussions; 
  • Technical mentoring and managing a team of Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers on project work;
  • Providing QA/QC oversight and review of project deliverables produced by Project and Assistant Project Managers;
  • Writing reports and case studies;
  • Developing new and recurring client business and writing contracts; and
  • Representing New Ecology at conferences.

Specific supervisory tasks include:

  • Meeting regularly with supervisee to discuss work, troubleshoot issues, provide guidance and understand needs;
  • Understanding workload and monitoring for volume, prioritization, and triaging;
  • Career development and opportunities (including creating goals, identifying growth opportunities, and supporting professional achievements such as trainings, certifications, and other progression);
  • Resolving employee issues, in partnership with HR as needed;
  • Managing timesheet submissions and reviews, weekly, ensuring appropriate allocation of time;
  • Forecasting and approving paid time off;
  • Evaluating professional performance, soliciting and delivering constructive feedback on a regular basis, and completing the annual review process for direct reports.


Required Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial, results-oriented, and a team player. The candidate must have a technical knowledge of building systems and operations, green building approaches and best practices, and experience in project management, coordination, and implementation. A LEED and/or Passive House accreditation and experience in actually certifying green building projects is required, as is a strong desire to work on energy efficiency and sustainability issues at the building level. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in certifying Passive House projects however, typical certifications in the region include Enterprise Green Communities, National Green Building Standard, and ENERGY STAR.

The candidate should also possess strong client communication skills. The candidate should be prepared for increased responsibility in a rapidly growing company and should be motivated to help build New Ecology’s reputation and services.

The successful candidate will have work experience that demonstrates:

  • The ability to effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong MC Excel and Word and writing skills;
  • Competence in reading and interpreting specifications and plans;
  • Expertise in building science, with a preference for experience with Passive House approaches to building design and construction;
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems and building codes; 
  • Knowledge of multifamily buildings/building systems;
  • Construction management and field inspection abilities;
  • Successful supervisory experience.


Work Location: Position is based in Boston, MA and serves initiatives from greater New England region. Physical presence at the Boston, MA office is required two (2) days per week, with additional regular travel to project sites across the region. Some evening meetings required.   


Travel: Candidate will ideally have a valid driver’s license and/or reliable transportation, as
routine local and regional travel to meet with clients, partners, and to visit job sites within the region is expected. All staff make occasional overnight trips to professional conferences and to New Ecology’s other offices. 


Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week, M-F, 9 am-5 pm) 


Compensation: $79,000-$105,000, based on experience. 

The full potential range for this Boston, MA based role is $79,000–$131,000, with typical hires within the lower half and strong potential for performance-based growth.
