Description

 The Youth Development Specialist (Teen Program) is a part-time position in Sioux Falls, SD, working with middle school youth at Patrick Henry, Ben Reifel and/ or George McGovern middle schools. This role supports educational, recreational, and STEAM activities, promotes a safe and inclusive environment, and provides youth supervision and mentorship while ensuring compliance with state and organizational safety standards. This is a part-time position with hours scheduled Monday through Friday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM during the school year.

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Welcome new members, explain rules, and encourage participation. 
  • Assist with student check in, welcoming visitors, answering phones and other communications. 
  • Support educational, recreational, and STEAM based activities that engage and interact with youth. 
  • Provide guidance and supervision for youth while maintaining a staff to youth ratio of 1:20.   
  • Maintain a clean and organized environment. 
  • Promote a fun, engaging, and safe atmosphere, including assisting with age-appropriate themes, activities, and field trips. 
  • Ensure that each teen program is operating in compliance with organizational, partnering agency, state and federal regulations and requirements and internal policies. 
  • Report and help resolve complaints or concerns per established procedures. 
  • Submit accurate daily attendance records and maintain data tracking for programming.

  • Provide supervision, guidance, and support to youth. 
  • Oversee the care and maintenance of equipment, supplies, and facilities. 
  • Attend staff meetings and required training sessions. 
  • Support special activities and events. 
  • Drive vehicles in accordance with transportation schedules. 
  • Assist in preparing and serving meals and snacks, including reporting requirements.  
  • Perform additional tasks assigned by supervisor/leadership. 
Requirements

 Education and Experience Requirements: 

  • Previous experience, education, or training in adolescent development, secondary education, or youth behavior management is preferred. 
  • Must be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license and a minimum of four years of driving experience. 
  • A valid CPR Certification or the ability to obtain and maintain CPR certification within 90 days of employment is required. The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire does provide training for those not certified. 

Skills and Knowledge Requirements: 

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal communication, and presentation skills. 
  • Time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to take initiative, prioritize duties, and work both independently and as part of a team. 
  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.  

Work Environment and Physical Requirements: 

  • Constant hearing, hand-eye coordination, mind-eye coordination. 
  • Intermittent speaking, standing, walking, kneeling, lifting, reaching, low-level activity, and squatting. 
  • Potential exposure to communicable diseases. 
  • Frequent lifting of objects under 20 pounds, and occasional lifting of items up to 75 pounds. 
  • Indoor with minimal outdoor work. Extreme temperatures in the summer and winter to be expected.
