The Electrical Designer (I, II, III, and Senior) is responsible for assisting in the planning, design, coordination, and documentation of electrical building systems for a variety of commercial, retail, institutional, industrial, multifamily, and mixed-use projects. This role supports the engineering team in preparing construction documents, performing design calculations, coordinating with other disciplines, and ensuring projects are developed in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
Working under the supervision of a Licensed Electrical Project Engineer or Lead Licensed Electrical Project Engineer, the Electrical Designer contributes to the successful delivery of projects through technical proficiency, attention to detail, collaboration, and continuous professional development.
Progression from Electrical Designer to Sr. Electrical Designer is based upon technical competency, project experience, professional growth, leadership abilities, and demonstrated performance.
Responsibilities
Technical Design & Documentation
- Prepare system layouts, plans, details, schedules, and specifications for electrical systems.
- Assist with the design of power distribution, lighting, emergency power, grounding, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems.
- Perform engineering calculations and design tasks appropriate to experience level.
- Develop construction documents in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
- Coordinate electrical systems with architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, civil, and specialty consultants.
- Research equipment, products, and design solutions appropriate for project requirements.
- Assist with site surveys, field investigations, and existing condition documentation.
- Revise construction documents based on review comments and project changes.
- Support permit submissions and responses to jurisdictional review comments.
Project Execution & Delivery
- Support project teams in meeting scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives.
- Complete assigned tasks within established project budgets and schedules.
- Participate in interdisciplinary coordination and design review meetings.
- Assist with project organization, document management, and production efforts.
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, clients, and consultants as directed.
- Support construction administration activities, including submittal reviews, RFIs, field observations, and issue resolution.
- Maintain project documentation and records in accordance with company standards.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Follow company quality control procedures and design standards.

- Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Drafting, CAD Technology, or related field; or
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- 0-2 years of relevant experience.
- Basic understanding of electrical systems and building construction.
- Familiarity with Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office preferred.
Electrical Designer II
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- 2-5 years of electrical design experience within the A/E industry.

Electrical Designer III
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in a related field.
