Licensed Electrical Project Engineer (Architecture & Engineering)
Description

The Licensed Electrical Project Engineer is responsible for the design, coordination, and delivery of electrical building systems for a variety of commercial, retail, institutional, industrial, multifamily, and mixed-use projects. This role provides engineering expertise throughout all phases of project development, from planning and design through construction administration.


Working collaboratively with Project Managers, architects, engineers, clients, and consultants, the Licensed Electrical Project Engineer ensures projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with applicable codes, industry standards, and client expectations. This position exercises professional engineering judgment, may serve as Engineer of Record when assigned, and contributes to the successful execution of complex electrical building systems.


Responsibilities


Technical Engineering

  • Design electrical building systems including power distribution, lighting, emergency power, grounding, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems.
  • Perform engineering calculations, load analyses, equipment selections, and system evaluations.
  • Apply engineering principles to develop practical and cost-effective design solutions.
  • Prepare construction documents, specifications, reports, and technical studies.
  • Interpret and apply applicable codes, standards, regulations, and company design practices.
  • Support the preparation of permit applications and responses to jurisdictional review comments.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record when assigned and qualified to do so.
  • Research and evaluate new technologies, products, and industry trends.

Project Execution & Delivery

  • Collaborate with Project Managers and project teams to establish project scope, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Complete assigned project tasks within established budgets and schedules.
  • Coordinate with internal project teams and external consultants to support successful project delivery.
  • Participate in design reviews and interdisciplinary coordination meetings.
  • Assist in monitoring project progress and identifying potential technical or coordination issues.
  • Support construction administration activities, including submittal reviews, RFIs, field observations, and issue resolution.
  • Ensure assigned work is completed accurately and in accordance with project requirements and quality standards.
  • Coordinate electrical systems with architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, and civil disciplines.

Client Relationships

  • Participate in client meetings and provide technical support for project discussions.
  • Assist in presenting engineering solutions and design concepts to project stakeholders.
  • Respond to client requests and project issues in a professional and timely manner.
  • Support the development and maintenance of positive client relationships.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Perform quality control reviews of assigned work products.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, industry standards, company procedures, and client requirements.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary reviews to promote constructability and design consistency.
  • Maintain awareness of changes in codes, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Support the firm's quality assurance process throughout project development.
  • Team Collaboration & Development
  • Collaborate effectively with Engineers, EITs, Designers, and Project Managers.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior team members as needed.
  • Participate in knowledge sharing and training initiatives.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a positive representative of the company and profession.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities


Technical

  • Knowledge of electrical building systems including power distribution, lighting, emergency power, grounding, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and BIM coordination workflows.
  • Experience with electrical engineering analysis and load calculation software.
  • Understanding of energy-efficient and sustainable building system design.
  • Experience with equipment selection, system sizing, and construction document preparation.
  • Working knowledge of construction administration processes.
  • Familiarity with NEC, NFPA, Energy Codes, and related regulations.

Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Minimum 5-8 years of progressive experience in electrical engineering design for building systems.
  • Experience designing power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, grounding, and low-voltage systems.
  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical, building, energy, life safety, and accessibility codes.
  • Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and BIM coordination workflows.
