At Metajive, we build mind-blowing UI experiences and beautiful, scalable websites. But we are also fundamentally changing how we build. We are actively transitioning from ad-hoc AI usage to a highly structured, team-wide agentic engineering practice over the next several months. We are operating as an "agentic studio"—meaning our competitive advantage is the quality and depth of our AI agent network combined with human creative ingenuity and quality code from our talented creative Devs. 

The Role

We are seeking a Tech Lead & Agentic Engineer who thrives at the intersection of human mentorship, client strategy, and cutting-edge AI architecture. You are an excellent communicator and a passionate technologist who loves being hands-on (spending 60–70% of your time coding and building).

However, you won’t just be writing boilerplate from scratch. You will combine your deep technical expertise with advanced AI tooling (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, custom agent platforms) to direct an orchestra of specialized AI agents. You will mentor a team of human creative developers, driving them toward agentic workflows, while ensuring our outputs maintain the highest standards of quality, performance, and creative excellence.

What You'll Do

Technical & Agentic Leadership

• Mentor Humans & Manage Swarms: Provide technical guidance to a team of 1–3 creative web developers, promoting their technical growth while actively defining, staffing, and managing Metajive’s AI agent roles (covering front-end, backend, CMS, QA, SEO, etc.).
• Drive the Agentic Roadmap: Lead mandatory weekly AI-only sessions to demonstrate expert-level workflow speed, helping traditional developers transition into agentic programmers and integrating our shared skills repository into daily workflows. Gain AI-buy-in from our current devs and deliver results!
• Architectural Decision-Making: Drive key technical decisions, ensuring solutions are scalable, maintainable, and designed so that AI agents can effectively execute tasks within them. Help establish the agentic engineering practice and road map.

Project Execution & Coding

• Hands-On Building: Spend 60–70% of your time actively building. Take Figma files and spec documents, hand them to the right combination of agents, and orchestrate the output into compliant, production-ready builds.
• Pipeline Automation: Oversee digital projects from planning to deployment, heavily focusing on automating our scaffolding processes (Figma-to-Next.js) and accelerating headless CMS integrations (Craft, and others).
• Project Management: Collaborate with project managers to define scope, estimate development effort, manage technical risks, and resolve roadblocks.

Code Quality and Standards

• Rigorous QA Oversight: Shift human workload from writing boilerplate to rigorous review. Ensure all outputs pass the official Metajive test suite, strictly complying with ADA/accessibility, pixel-perfect QA, SEO/AEO readiness, and security protocols.
• Enforce System Discipline: Enforce coding standards on both human and AI-generated code. Maintain strict architectural rules (e.g., max 500-line file limits, requiring subclass breakouts for complex components).
• Testing & Deployment: Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and secure deployment processes.

Collaboration, Client Facing, and Innovation

• Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with designers, UX specialists, and clients to translate creative concepts into technical solutions. Communicate complex tech/AI concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
• R&D Pioneering: Actively evaluate emerging technologies. With potential support for dedicated unbillable R&D sprints, you will have the space to design new agents, craft bespoke skills, and actively define our agency's agentic future.

What You'll Bring

Education and Experience

• Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience: 6+ years in software/full stack web development with 3+ years in a technical lead or senior developer role. 
• Experience working in a creative agency environment is a must!
• Deep AI Fluency: Extensive, proven, hands-on experience building with advanced AI tools (VS Code + Copilot + Claude Code) and shared prompt architectures. You know how to talk to LLMs to get highly structured, production-ready results, while also ensuring the code is clean, scalable, reusable, test-driven and follows SOLID principles. 
• Creative Engineering & Animation: Understanding of WebGL, GSAP, or similar libraries and advanced web animations, coupled with a refined eye for creative design to ensure technical executions perfectly match our high-end UI/UX standards.

Technical Skills

• Core Stack: Strong proficiency in modern web development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and frameworks, specifically React and Next.js. (React Native is a plus).
• Backend & DBs: Solid understanding of PHP, databases, and LAMP servers.
• CMS Expertise: Deep experience scaffolding and building with headless CMS systems (Craft, Statamic, WordPress, etc).
• Infrastructure: Experience with version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and cloud platforms (AWS: EC2, S3, Lambda, Cloudfront, RDS).
• Systems Thinking: Knowledge of software design patterns and performance optimization. You excel at breaking down complex tasks into modular steps that an AI agent or tool (like MCP) can execute.

Leadership and Attributes

• Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with the proven ability to present to clients, mentor less-experienced developers, and manage project scope.
• Uncompromising Standards: A sharp eye for detail. You understand that AI speed requires intense human oversight, particularly regarding performance metrics (Core Web Vitals), security hygiene (SSL, WAF), and accessibility.
• Pioneering Spirit: A proactive, solution-oriented mindset. You are comfortable operating in a fast-paced R&D environment and are ready to build the playbook for agency-level agentic execution.

Compensation

• Salary:  $110,000 USD (approx. 151,600 CAD) for this position (Canada) D.O.E.
  Candidate must reside in Canada and be legally authorized to work in Canada.
