FALL 2026 & SPRING 2027  --  $16.00 PER HOUR PAID INTERNSHIP


Are you currently enrolled (or planning to enroll) in a facilities management, grounds management, industrial maintenance, or maintenance technician program?  Come to the Foundation to get hands-on learning experiences while you complete your coursework, in an environment that will be flexible around your class schedule! 


Our Facilities and Office Services Internship (Fall 2026 – Spring 2026) is a hands-on learning role that will play an important service and support role in the safe, timely and efficient maintenance of our entire campus – both inside and out.  In this internship, your tasks will fall inside these 3 categories: Office Services (OS), Facilities Maintenance (FM), and Grounds Maintenance (GM). Below are some examples of tasks that are included in each area of responsibility:

Office Services (OS):

  • Assist with office moves, furniture rearrangements, and furniture assembly.
  • Assist with setting up meeting rooms, conference rooms, and event spaces.
  • Help maintain and replenish an adequate inventory of cleaning supplies, paper goods, and kitchen/bathroom supplies for the business. Restock items as needed.
  • Collaborate with, and supplement the work of, the third-party housekeeping team to ensure a clean and organized working environment. Conduct “as needed” spot-cleaning of common areas: kitchens, restrooms, conference rooms and lobby.


Facilities Maintenance (FM):

  • Assist in performing routine Preventative Maintenance (“PM”) tasks on our mechanicals and systems, including HVAC, plumbing, water, and electrical systems. In position, the intern will be trained to conduct basic troubleshooting of the same systems.
  • At the outset, all hands-on troubleshooting and repairs will be directly supervised until the intern is trained proficiently. Once fully trained, the intern will independently:
  • Complete basic repairs, such as: changing out lightbulbs, swapping door handles, addressing plumbing clogs, 
  • Complete basic cosmetic maintenance tasks, such as: applying touch-up paint, replacing carpet squares, replacing caulk, etc.  
  • Assist in maintaining the exterior of the building, including periodic inspections of roof, windows, tuckpointing, concrete, etc. When issues are identified, assist in coordinating appropriate contractors/vendors for repairs.
  • Participate in the inspection and maintenance of fire safety and security systems


Grounds Maintenance (GM):

  • Assist in maintaining the grounds of our beautiful 15-acre campus, including: landscaping/lawn care, tree management, mulched trail maintenance, and regular weed management and treatments. 
  • Assist in maintaining safe access to our building, including: parking lots, sidewalks and patios.  This includes primarily leaf blowing (year-round), and snow removal and salt application (in winter),

Internship Schedule:

  • This is set for a Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 internship; however, we can start someone in the Summer 2026 if they have availability and interest.
  • The target schedule for this role will be 15-20 hours per week between the hours of 8:00am-5:00pm, Monday-through-Friday. We have a strong preference that there is some availability to work on at least Mondays and Fridays.  
  • It is preferred that the person have a set schedule for the duration of the internship (or by semester) however, we can accommodate a flexible schedule for the right candidate. 


Work Environment,
This position is expected to work 100% onsite at our corporate headquarters office in Brookfield, WI in a normal office and warehouse environment, including a loading/shipping dock and digital printing shop. There will be no business travel in this role; but there may be vehicle trips (during working hours) to local stores to pick up parts, tools, or supplies.  

Requirements

Required Education/ Experience:

  • Currently (or soon to be) enrolled in a relevant degree or certificate program or pursuing a career in facility management, maintenance, or related field.
  • Will consider recent grads who completed a program within the last 12 months
  • Basic knowledge of facility maintenance principles is a plus.

  • Must understand that this role is a “customer service first” position inside a corporate business. Your coworkers are your customers!
  • Solid communication skills, and the ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Strong willingness to learn and a proactive attitude.
  • Detail-oriented and capable of following instructions.
  • Excellent attendance history in prior roles.
     

Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  Physical requirements include: standing for extended periods of time, sometimes lasting up to several hours, repetitive bending and heavy lifting of up-to 70 pounds. Heavier weights will be routinely handled with team assist or with use of equipment (e.g.: pallet jack, skids, carts, etc.). The incumbent must have the physical ability to safely climb and use ladders of various heights.
