Social, Community & Influencer Manager (Africa)

EMPIRE is a premier and dynamic music company that prides itself on the development and support of independent artists. We are a rapidly growing firm that has been making waves in the music industry, with an extensive portfolio that spans multiple genres and reaches audiences worldwide. We have become the largest independent record label in the U.S., with a significant global presence covering Africa, Asia, Europe, Australia, and North and South America. Across the African continent, we work hand in hand with the artists, sounds, and creators driving global culture — from Afrobeats and Amapiano to Bongo Flava, Highlife, and beyond. We keep ourselves busy with a large range of music-related services from original content and marketing to distribution and recordings.

Our commitment to artistic creativity, innovation, and progressive business solutions forms the foundation of our corporate culture. We believe in fostering talent, not just in our artists but also within our professional teams. As we continue to expand, we invite you to join us on this exciting journey.

The Role Remix: EMPIRE is looking for a Social, Community & Influencer Manager to join our Africa Team, pairing hands-on social and community management with creator-driven influencer and seeding campaigns across the continent. Based in our Lagos office (open to Accra, Nairobi, or Johannesburg for the right candidate), this role will report into the SVP, Strategic Marketing and will:

  • Manage social media accounts, ensuring consistent voice, tone, and community engagement across platforms
  • Lead day-to-day social content creation, scheduling, monitoring, and management
  • Develop and maintain social content calendars informed by digital trends, cultural moments, and audience insights
  • Create engaging social content as needed — copy, graphics, short-form video, and real-time content — using basic video and photo editing to produce assets
  • Monitor social engagement, audience sentiment, and community feedback to inform content strategy and optimize performance
  • Attend artist events, activations, and live moments to capture content and support real-time engagement
  • Own influencer and creator seeding end to end for releases across West Africa (Nigeria, Ghana), East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda), and South Africa — sourcing, vetting, briefing creators, and managing deliverables
  • Drive TikTok dance and sound challenges and UGC across all African genres, building relationships with creators, dancers, skit-makers, DJs, talent managers, and agencies across the continent
  • Tailor each campaign to the platforms that move in-market — YouTube, Boomplay, Audiomack, TikTok, Instagram, and X, plus Spotify and Apple Music where they over-index — with data-light, WhatsApp-friendly activations and localized creative
  • Coordinate diaspora seeding (UK, US, and beyond), negotiate rates and contracts in local currencies, and manage campaign budgets to hit targets
  • Support the planning and execution of digital marketing campaigns across social and online platforms
  • Track, measure, and report on performance (social engagement, sound usage, UGC volume, streams across Boomplay/Audiomack/YouTube/Spotify, reach, conversions) and build live dashboards for real-time reporting
  • Use ChatGPT and other AI tools to optimize and automate outreach, briefing, and reporting workflows
  • Track requests and organize workflow with Asana
  • Manage communication between the Digital team and any third-party vendors
  • Partner cross-functionally with Digital Ads, Socials, Design, A&R, Finance, regional label teams, and artists, and advise on social best practices and emerging digital opportunities
  • Any additional duties as assigned

Key Notes for Success:

  • Several years of experience across social media, community, and/or influencer/creator and seeding campaigns, with a track record of driving viral moments in African markets
  • Deep, current knowledge of the music scenes, creator ecosystems, digital platforms, and online culture across West, East, and Southern Africa
  • An existing network of creator, influencer, and agency relationships across the regions
  • Fluency in the platform landscape (Boomplay, Audiomack, Mdundo, YouTube, TikTok) and how it differs market to market
  • Ability to generate content ideas and stay ahead of emerging trends, with hands-on content creation and basic video/photo editing
  • Cultural and linguistic fluency and sensitivity across diverse markets
  • Strong negotiation skills and comfort managing budgets in multiple currencies
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • You understand the importance of confidentiality and discretion

With its focus on early stage artist development, the San Francisco based company has been instrumental in identifying future icons and launching the careers of both Multi-platinum and Grammy Award winning artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Fireboy DML, Yung Bleu, Migos, Asake, XXXtentacion, and Anderson .Paak to name a few. After this early success, EMPIRE was quickly regarded as a tastemaker in the industry and premier independent record label.

More than a decade in, EMPIRE continues to grow – expanding the Publishing division with a partnership with superproducer Hit-Boy and his Surf Club collective and acquiring Dirtybird Records in 2022 to amplify the Dance arm. EMPIRE has expanded the team throughout the globe on the African continent, Europe, Asia, North America, and South America. With the company and roster excelling at a breakneck pace, EMPIRE has effectively disrupted a stale business model by bringing its energy, expertise, and acumen to its artists and labels.

Through crafting bespoke deals that are always in favor of the artist, EMPIRE is able to form a true partnership with each artist and label on its roster.
