Tool and Die Maker - Apprentice

Hudson Deep Draw in Ormond Beach, Florida is hiring for a Tool & Die Maker Apprentice.   

The Toolmaker Apprentice is responsible for learning the skills required to build, maintain, and repair tooling used in manufacturing operations. This position works closely with experienced toolmakers to develop hands-on skills in machining, tooling assembly, and troubleshooting over a structured 4-year apprenticeship program which includes attending courses at Daytona State after work hours.

Complete Apprenticeship Program

•    candidates must commit to completing a minimum of 600 hours of formal classroom instruction. 

•    candidates must commit to completing a minimum of 8000 hours of on- the- job training.

•    Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

Analyzes and interprets drawings. Prepares written and/or verbal instruction to the production personnel for the tooling or die in question when necessary.

Will plan set-up and operate necessary machine tools. 

• Takes into consideration the type of material, tolerances, choice of cutting tools, lubricants/coolants and machine 

tool feeds and speeds.

Will use a variety of precision measuring and gauging tools both during and after machining. 

• May be required to measure and copy parts.

Will use all standard hand tools in the tool & die trade with a high degree of proficiency.

Ability to learn and perform heat treating operations as required.

Determines specifications/standards for inspection of completed work and future repair specifications.

Fits and assembles tooling, dies, fixtures, etc. 

• May set-up, test and adjust tooling in production to obtain the correct specifications.

Trouble shoots die problems in production as required.

Maintains work area in a neat and orderly condition.  

• Returns unused materials or supplies to the correct location.

Observes all basic plant safety rules and safe operating procedures for tool room equipment.

Participates in tool design and process reviews as required.

Effectively communicates issues concerning safety, quality, delivery, productivity, tooling

• Communicates issues to Team Leader to ensure that organizational goals and objectives are met.

• Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies. 

• Coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members. 

• Attends appropriate team meetings.  

• Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas of lack of cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team 

leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues affecting cohesiveness. 

• Actively look for ways, and reinforce actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.

Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives. This position description is intended to guide the activities of the Tool & Die Maker.

  

Educational   Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent


Technical Experience: Soft knowledge of tooling
