Description

 Janus of Santa Cruz is seeking compassionate and reliable volunteers committed to supporting our mission of providing high-quality behavioral health and substance use treatment services.

Volunteers play a vital role in enhancing client experiences, supporting staff, and contributing to a welcoming, recovery-oriented environment. This position is ideal for individuals seeking hands-on experience in a healthcare or nonprofit setting while giving back to the community.


Key Responsibilities

Direct Service & Program Support

  • Complete all required observation and/or outreach hours prior to engaging in direct service activities
  • Participate in on-the-job training within assigned department(s)
  • Collaborate with staff and supervisors to receive assignments and provide updates on volunteer activities
  • Support routine program operations and assist with assigned tasks
  • Provide excellent customer service and foster a welcoming, respectful environment for clients
  • Assist with clerical, administrative, and program support tasks as needed
  • Support agency events including outreach, alumni events, trainings, and community education efforts
  • Develop familiarity with Janus policies, procedures, and standard operating practices
  • Attend staff meetings, volunteer “Brown Bag” meetings, and trainings when available
  • Operate independently on routine tasks after appropriate training
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Administrative & Agency Support

  • Take on additional responsibilities as needed to support agency operations
  • Contribute to a collaborative and team-oriented environment

Professional Development & Accountability

  • Attend all required trainings and meetings
  • Participate in scheduled supervision and bring forward questions, concerns, or feedback
  • Engage in continuous learning and skill-building

Qualifications

  • Basic computer and clerical skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally (in person and by phone)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact respectfully with diverse populations
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Passion for community service and alignment with Janus’ mission

Physical & Mental Requirements

  • Ability to understand and follow agency policies and procedures
  • Ability to safely perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to use a computer and complete documentation
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, sometimes high-stress environment
  • Demonstrated ability to: 
    • Prioritize tasks and meet deadlines

    • Take initiative in learning and improving performance

Training Requirements

  • Completion of Janus Volunteer Orientation and onboarding requirements
  • Participation in ongoing volunteer trainings, including monthly meetings
