The Buyer will support our manufacturing operations. Responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing materials and outside services required for custom equipment builds, with a strong emphasis on metals, weldments, and manufacturing-related services.
Essential Functions
- Self-starter with a solid manufacturing background who can operate independently while collaborating cross-functionally. Will be responsible for purchases merchandise, materials, components, equipment, and/or services; performs a variety of production planning activities required to attain production objectives.
- Source and purchase raw materials, metals, weldments, and manufactured components to support production schedules.
- Procure outside services including but not limited to machining, fabrication, welding, heat treating, painting/coating, cutting, inspection, and freight/logistics services.
- Work closely with engineering and manufacturing to interpret BOMs, drawings, and specifications for both materials and services.
- Identify, qualify, and manage material suppliers and service providers with a focus on quality, cost, and delivery performance.
- Issue purchase orders for materials and services, track order status, and resolve shortages, quality issues, or delivery delays.
- Negotiate pricing, lead times, and terms with vendors and service providers.
- Coordinate outside processing and subcontracted work to align with production schedules.
- Monitor inventory levels and support material planning for custom, project-based builds.
- Ensure purchased materials and services meet quality, technical, and contractual requirements.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records within the ERP/MRP system.
- Continuously seek cost savings, alternate suppliers, and supply chain improvements.
- Exercises discretion and independent judgment in carrying out assigned responsibilities.
- Performs duties in accordance with company policies, procedures and regulations.
- Other responsibilities may be assigned based on business needs.
- Occasional travel may be required based on business needs.
- Additional hours as necessary to meet business needs.
- Additional duties as assigned.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Buyer or similar procurement role.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Strong ability to convey design concepts and make quality-focused, cost-based decisions.
- Time Management: Efficiently manage urgent production needs and deadlines.
- Vendor Relations: Build B2B partnerships for raw materials and tool/die supplies.

- Technical Skills: Ability to read blueprints and AutoCAD designs to evaluate procurement needs.
- Problem Solving: Use critical thinking to forecast issues and implement creative solutions.
