Position Summary
The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) is an executive leadership role responsible for developing and executing the firm’s technology strategy, infrastructure, and innovation roadmap. The CTO will align technology investments with the firm’s business goals, ensuring high availability, security, and efficiency to support all practices. This role leads the IT organization, including business analytics, driving digital transformation, cloud evolution, and the adoption of AI to maintain a competitive advantage.

This position will report to The Chief Executive Officer.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership & Digital Transformation
- Vision & Roadmap: Through the lens of the business strategy, define and own the firm’s short-term and long-term technology stack.
- Innovation & AI Strategy: Evaluate and implement emerging technologies, for document review, contract analysis, and legal research. Establish a clear lens (e.g., cost, accuracy) for evaluation. Ensure a pragmatic approach, ensuring clear ROI on all technology spend.
- Client Technology Alignment: Develop technology solutions that meet client expectations for transparency, security, and efficiency, fostering a "client focused" approach.
- Executive Teamwork: Work alongside the executive leadership team to integrate, update, and where appropriate, sunset technology as a part of the firm's growth strategy.
2. Cybersecurity & Risk Management
- Information Governance: Ensure robust cybersecurity practices to protect both employee, financial data, and client information.
- Compliance: Lead strategic initiatives in data privacy and AI governance, ensuring compliance with all applicable legal regulatory frameworks.
- Risk Mitigation: Reduce risk via proactive security measures, disaster recovery planning, and balanced compliance.
3. Operational Excellence & Infrastructure
- Cloud Evolution: Drive the maturation of cloud-based environments to enhance agility and reduce overhead.
- Infrastructure Management: Oversee the performance, scalability, and reliability of all hardware, software, and networks.
- Vendor Management: Manage key vendor relationships to ensure optimal, aligned upon service delivery and cost-effectiveness.
4. Leadership & Talent Development
- Team Management: Lead and mentor a high-performing IT department with a mindset of agility, pragmatic innovation and attention to detail. Builds and monitors KPIs to support high performance and clear value delivery to the firm. Ability to recruit and retain top IT talent in the legal field.
- Client Culture: Foster a highly responsive, client-service-oriented IT culture. Ensures strong ease of use to consistently improve team member and attorney adoption of technology.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 10+ years of progressive IT leadership experience, with significant experience in a law firm or professional services setting preferred. Demonstrated experience in B2C businesses.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Legal Tech Expertise: Preferred expertise in industry-standard legal software applications (e.g., Document Management Systems, Practice Management, AI tools).
- Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated ability to translate business goals into actionable technology roadmaps.
- Leadership: Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at the partnership level. Deep understanding of the concepts of change management and stakeholder engagement in driving change and adoption of technology and associated processes.
Work Environment
Work Hours:
Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5:30pm
Mobility:
Primarily sedentary, able to sit for long periods of time.
Physical Demands:
Ability to speak, see, and hear other personnel. Ability to communicate both in verbal and written form. Capable of using a telephone and computer keyboard. Able to lift up to 10 pounds. Ability to travel within the facility and to other locations as required.
