Description

Job Summary

Ensures proper operation of machinery by performing preventative maintenance and repair of all rolling stock and implements in the feedyard. Equipment included: Commodity trailers, cattle trucks, feed trucks, water trucks, tractors. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential

  • Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments. 
  • Removes defective parts by dismantling devices, using hoists, and various hand/power tools. 
  • Completes preventative maintenance requirements such as oil, filter, lube and grease for rolling stock including feed trucks, tractors, and other heavy equipment. 
  • Complete work orders on all repairs detailing parts, work completed, and time spent on repairs.
  • Welding repair as needed, but not required 
  • Maintains shop appearance by disposing of trash, putting away supplies/tools, sweeping, etc… 
  • Fill out and complete a daily checklist including preventive maintenance items.
  • Complies with all applicable safety rules and policies. 

Marginal

  • Assist the other crews with maintenance and repair issues when needed (Feeding, Mill, Hospital, Processing)
  • Other tasks or duties as required
Requirements

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of vehicle mechanics and heavy equipment including diesel engines. 
  • Basic knowledge of email; Spreadsheet software and Database software. 
  • Valid driver’s license. 
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. 
  • Must be able to drive and operate equipment (trucks, loaders, tractors, etc.)
  • Must be responsible and trustworthy
  • Flexibility to work longer than normal schedule (earlier or later)
  • Excellent safety skills and awareness needed
  • Must be a team player

Typical Physical Requirements

  • Mostly very heavy work requiring exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally
  • Requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
  • Person subject to both inside & outside weather conditions including extreme cold, heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, oil, and may have to wear a respirator in certain instances
