Sewer Vacuum Truck Operator
Description

The Sewer Vacuum Truck Operator is responsible for the cleaning and removal of debris from manholes, sewer lines, storm drains, and related infrastructure using a Combination (Jetter/Vacuum) Truck. This role requires a CDL-licensed operator with experience in operating specialized equipment, supervising crew activities, and coordinating with management and contractors to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality project execution.

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate and maintain a Combination (Jetter/Vacuum) Truck and associated equipment
  • Mobilize to job sites and perform cleaning of sewer systems, manholes, storm drains, and related structures
  • Open, inspect, and assess sewer infrastructure in accordance with NASSCO PACP/MACP/LACP standards
  • Perform easement clearing and remove vegetation as needed
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections; report defects and maintenance needs
  • Maintain equipment through routine cleaning, lubrication, adjustments, and minor repairs
  • Supervise and direct crew members, ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently
  • Monitor work quality, accuracy, and completeness in compliance with project requirements
  • Coordinate with management, inspectors, and contractors to meet service expectations
  • Identify field issues and promptly report concerns to management
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies and data security standards
  • Participate in project meetings as required
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications & Skills:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience operating a Combination (Jetter/Vacuum) Truck preferred (training available for qualified candidates)
  • Experience with sewer cleaning, manhole inspection, tank cleaning, and hydro-blasting
  • Familiarity with wet/dry vacuum operations

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and adapt to flexible schedules
  • Proficiency in reading maps, plans, GIS data, and technical specifications
  • Basic computer skills (word processing and spreadsheets)
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic math skills for measurements and quantity calculations
  • Ability to follow and enforce safety policies and procedures
  • Reliable, punctual, and capable of multitasking

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Valid CDL Class A or B with Tanker and Hazardous Materials Endorsements
  • Current DOT Medical Card (or ability to obtain prior to start date)

Required within 30 days of employment:

  • OSHA 10 Certification
  • CPR Certification
  • Confined Space Entry (Construction) Certification
  • Traffic Control/Flagger Certification

Physical Requirements:

  •   Ability to work in outdoor and physically demanding environments 
  •   Frequent walking on uneven or rugged terrain 
  •   Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 125 lbs occasionally 
  •   Capability to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, and crawl 
  •   Manual dexterity to handle tools and equipment 
  •   Adequate vision (close, distance, color, depth perception, and focus adjustment)

Work Environment:

  • Primarily performed outdoors in varying conditions. 
  • Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, and occasional fumes or airborne particles.
