Facilities Custodian (Part-Time)
Description

Under the supervision of Director of Facilities, the part-time Custodian is a member of a team responsible for meeting the cleaning and janitorial needs of a large church and school campus situated on over 20 acres with 7 buildings and approximately 150,000 square feet of space.  This position requires on-site physical presence.  


The schedule is part-time, 20 hours per week, and includes Sunday mornings and weekday evenings.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Follow daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules for assigned areas of campus including but not limited to common areas, classrooms, break areas, office areas, bathrooms, gymnasiums, storage areas, and entrances.  
  • Disinfect and clean trashcans and change bags daily.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms and restroom fixtures daily with approved germicidal solution.
  • Sweep and mop all washable floors daily with approved germicidal solution. 
  • Vacuum carpeting daily. 
  • Dust, wash, and sanitize surfaces as scheduled.
  • Wash windows and walls using approved germicidal solution as scheduled or needed.  
  • Take responsibility for assigned area to ensure expectations and quality of cleaning standards are met.
  • Respond to spills and other incidents to clean and sanitize in accordance with procedures.
  • Collect, bag, and transfer all garbage, lifting tied bags overhead to put into the closed dumpster.
  • Use plumbers snake and other tools to unplug toilets, traps, and sinks.
  • Supply restrooms with hand soap, toilet paper, and other paper products.
  • Maintain knowledge of supply storage, retrieve items as necessary, and inform the Director of replenishment needs.
  • Polish floors as scheduled or necessary.  
  • Perform and assist with periodic deep cleaning as necessary.
  • Report the following to the Director of Facilities: presence of animals, vermin, or insects; needs for cleaning supplies or equipment, water leaks, maintenance needs, health and safety hazards.
  • Lock and unlock various rooms and spaces throughout day and at conclusion of shift. 
  • Assist with setup and tear down of classrooms, meeting rooms, and event spaces including church services and outdoor events. Assist with office and classroom moves and furniture assembly.
  • Perform routine maintenance activities including but not limited to changing light bulbs, light painting, and light pressure washing.
  • Take ownership of building areas by being observant and alert to issues and potential issues that may arise during the normal course of work. Take action by informing the Director of concerns requiring further inspection or skilled trade work. 
  • Interact and communicate with on-site outsourced cleaning service personnel by answering questions, clarifying work assignments, and documenting supply needs requested by the cleaners.  Keep the Director informed as necessary.
  • Ensure all main points of entry are locked at conclusion of shift and communicate with on-site Security Officers as necessary.
  • Adhere to safety standards and follow best practices in order to eliminate possible risks and safety hazards. 
  • Perform duties pursuant to emergencies such as inclement weather, hurricane preparedness, and clean up after the event in order to reopen campus.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma and at least 2 years experience cleaning and maintaining commercial property.   
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive church vehicles on campus. 
  • Must be self-disciplined, highly motivated and detail oriented. 
  • Strong command of English language and good communication and customer service skills are required, as this position will frequently interact with staff and church and school families. 
  • Physically, this position requires performing activities that require movements such as lifting and moving up to 50 lbs. frequently and up to 100 lbs. occasionally using equipment, stooping, climbing including ladders, balancing, walking, reaching, bending, crawling in small spaces, reaching above, pushing, pulling, manual dexterity, and handling of furniture, cleaning equipment, cleaning agents, and materials.
  • Strong knowledge of OHSA standards and safety practices with ability to follow protocols such as safely handling cleaning chemicals and cleaning equipment.

Work Environment:  

This position is responsible for tasks that involve possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and cleaning agents and chemicals.  Protective equipment, such as latex gloves, per OSHA regulations is required.
