Description
The Sewing Labs is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Industrial Sewing Instructor to teach and mentor adult students in an evening industrial sewing program.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience operating industrial sewing machines, strong communication skills, patience, and a passion for helping students gain practical, job-ready sewing skills. This role includes classroom instruction, demonstrations, student support, basic equipment oversight, and coordination with volunteers and program staff.
Requirements
The Industrial Sewing Instructor will:
- Provide hands-on instruction and demonstrations based on the course curriculum.
- Teach basic industrial sewing skills, including machine operation, basic maintenance, stitching techniques, simple project sewing, use of basic patterns, and safe operation of domestic, industrial, and overlock machines.
- Support students as they build confidence, accuracy, and consistency in their sewing skills.
- Mentor participants in employment and entrepreneurial pathways, including quality control, production standards, and professional sewing practices.
- Prepare course materials, handouts, demonstrations, and classroom activities that support student learning.
- Manage the classroom environment in a way that is organized, safe, creative, and welcoming.
- Coordinate classroom setup, job board setup, and appropriate use of equipment and materials.
- Help ensure routine machine maintenance and upkeep are communicated and coordinated as needed.
- Track and submit attendance records for students and volunteers.
- Record student progress and support required program documentation.
- Monitor student journal entries or other learning reflections, as needed.
- Guide volunteers so that all participants receive consistent, supportive instruction.

Ideal Candidate
A successful candidate will bring:
- Experience operating industrial sewing machines.
- Knowledge of basic machine maintenance, stitching, construction techniques, and quality control.
- Familiarity with domestic sewing machines and overlock/serger machines.
- Experience teaching, training, mentoring, or coaching adults preferred.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain information clearly and patiently.
- A calm, encouraging approach to problem-solving.
- Pride in quality workmanship and a passion for helping others learn.

Schedule
This is a part-time evening instructor position.Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
