Description

Position Summary: 

Provides overall leadership, growth direction, and strategic oversight for the Commercial Banking division and Community Bank Presidents within assigned markets. Serves as a senior market facing leader responsible for driving commercial banking production, developing community and regional leadership talent, and representing the Bank externally. Maintains a portfolio of commercial relationships and models disciplined execution of WNB Financials Strategic Plan. Understands and completes job responsibilities in accordance with federal and state regulations.


Essential Functions:


Regional Leadership & Management 40%

  • Partners with the Community Presidents and business banking department to develop and fulfill successful business development initiatives
  • Establishes and monitors growth expectations, performance objectives, and market strategies across assigned regions. 
  • Develops and monitors work plans that align with the Bank’s strategic goals. 
  • Promotes consistent Trusted Financial Advisor and culture across all markets. 
  • Leads the commercial banking growth strategy for the region in alignment with budget and strategic objectives. 
  • Oversees loan growth, deposit growth, pricing discipline, and portfolio performance. 
  • Provides executive level support and guidance on complex or higher risk lending relationships. 
  • Partners with Treasury Management, Mortgage, Wealth Management, and Retail teams to deepen relationships and drive cross line referrals. 
  • Assists in the development and enhancement of products, services, and pricing models to support commercial production.
  • Provides guidance, resources, and support to improve individual and regional performance. 
  • Prepares and reviews reports related to market and regional performance, production, and profitability. 
  • Ensures adherence to federal and state regulations, Bank policies, and credit culture standards.


Production 35%

  • Maintains and proactively develops and manages a loan portfolio of commercial banking clients. 
  • Proactively generates new business opportunities and relationships through disciplined prospecting, follow-up, and intentional relationship development activities via Circles of Growth strategy.
  • Demonstrates consistent focus on building, deepening, and expanding client relationships through regular, purposeful engagement.
  • Generates new loan, deposit, treasury, and referral opportunities in alignment with individual and department production expectations. 
  • Serves as a Trusted Financial Advisor to clients and prospects by uncovering needs, providing solutions, and coordinating resources across the Bank.
  • Models’ strong behaviors by working at a fast pace, prioritizing high impact activities, and consistently focused on moving relationships forward.


Market Presence and Brand Awareness: 20%

  • Serves as a visible ambassador of the Bank throughout assigned markets. 
  • Actively participates in community organizations, business groups, and professional associations. 
  • Joint calls with Community Bank Presidents and Commercial Bankers on key prospect and client relationships. 
  • Builds, deepens, and expands Centers of Influence and referral networks. 
  • Demonstrates comfort with outreach outside established relationships and the ability to operate effectively in new or unfamiliar settings. 


Additional Duties and Responsibilities 5%

  • Acts as the department liaison within and outside the Bank
  • Serves on Bank committees as needed
  • Other job related duties necessary to carry out the responsibilities of this position
  • Participates in internal and external training and development opportunities as required


Requirements

Work Relationships and Scope:

Works regularly with clients and co-workers. Occasional contact with trade/professional affiliations and federal/state regulatory agencies. Works regularly with highly confidential business and client information. Participates in bank events.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

A four-year degree in accounting, finance, business or equivalent is required; advanced degree desirable. Ten+ years commercial lending experience required; five years management/supervisory experience required. Graduate School of Banking graduate preferred. Must possess strong sales acumen; courteous and professional customer service attitude; excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong management skills; ability to maintain the integrity of highly confidential client and Bank information. Must possess strong computer skills, technical ability to input and retrieve computerized information; strong mathematical skills up to and including statistical analysis; legible handwriting; cross-selling skills. Must be able to deal effectively with time pressures and stress that can change hourly depending on level of activity; highly effective problem solving and technical research skills. Must be a self-starter and independent thinker and meet goals as outlined by the bank strategic plan.


Working Conditions:  

Work is performed largely in an office environment with minimal chance for personal injury. Regular contact with clients and co-workers. Occasional out-of-town and overnight business travel (air or auto) required for business and education. Regular mental and visual concentration for computer usage required. Regular use of telephone; frequent repetitive use of keyboard for approximately 4 hours per day. Receive and provide detailed information through verbal and written communication. Requires near, mid-range, and far vision. Will alternate sitting, standing, and walking throughout work shift. Bend, turn, lift and carry up to 20 pounds of documents and office supplies. Climb stairs. Hours of work are generally during regular business hours and average at least 40-45 hours a week. There will be some variation in work hours due to special projects, deadlines, community events, security calls, and other concerns.


Equipment Used:  

Operates personal computer in a Windows environment for word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, internet, and other bank specific software. Operates core systems on Experience. Utilizes a variety of office equipment including computer printer, ten-key calculator, fax, copy machine, and multi-line telephone.
