Status: 48-60 hours per two week pay period
Shift: 12 Hours - Rotating Shifts, every third weekend/holiday

Position Purpose:
The nurse aide or certified nurse aide performs a variety of duties and functions to meet and exceed the customer's expectations while providing continuity of care to the patients we serve. The aide supports the nursing team in providing physical care to patients on the inpatient unit as well as performing medical tasks that are within the scope of practice for a nurse aide in South Dakota.

- Takes and records vitals with accuracy. Reports abnormalities immediately to the nurse.
- Anticipates patient needs and responds to patient call lights promptly and routinely makes rounds to monitor patients.
- Assists in maintaining a therapeutic and tidy healing environment in each patient’s room.
- Assists in meeting patient needs including hygiene, toileting and nutrition.
- Assists with admission and discharge of patients.

- Provides psychosocial support to patients through positive interactions and kind communication.
- Assists in the orientation and development of other nurse aides as well as students those involved in the CNA apprentice program.
Other Job Duties:
- Assists in maintaining a clean, organized and well stocked nursing unit through completion of routine tasks and awareness of immediate needs.
- Follows infection control procedures including using standard precautions with all patients and using additional precautions as instructed.
- Assumes responsibility for professional self-development. Participates in in services, educational programs, unit meetings (attend a minimum of 80% of unit meetings per year), and mandatory meetings.
- Participates in hospital’s quality, risk, and utilization plan by participating in projects and staff meetings.
- Demonstrates open communication and teamwork within each unit, between units, and house wide. Utilizes problem- solving methods to resolve differences with others in a non-judgmental manner.
- Complies with HIPPA and other patient privacy laws
- Always maintains a professional demeanor and appearance and works in accordance with the mission, vision and values of HRMC.
Qualifications: (Minimum Education and Experience)
- High School graduate or equivalent work experience, including ability to read, write, and comprehend medical terminology.
- Satisfactory completion of a nurses aide training course or satisfactory completion of HRMC's nurse aide training program.
- BLS is required but may be completed as part of orientation process.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Physical demands necessitate frequent assistance of patient which require knowledge and proper use of body mechanics
- Ability to communicate with co-workers, patients and visitors.
- Utilizes computer system and software.
- Completes competencies on department equipment.
- Willingness to cross train to other units is required.
