Description

Position Summary

The Fabricator is responsible for interpreting engineering drawings and work instructions to fabricate, assemble, fit, and prepare metal components and assemblies to required specifications and quality standards. This role operates a variety of fabrication equipment and hand tools while maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.


The Fabricator works closely with engineering, production, quality, and welding teams to ensure products are completed accurately, on schedule, and in accordance with company and customer requirements.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, engineering drawings, bills of materials, and specifications. 
  • Measure, mark, cut, drill, grind, bend, fit, and assemble metal components and structures. 
  • Set up and operate fabrication equipment, including saws, shears, ironworkers, presses, rollers, brakes, and other machinery. 
  • Perform layout work using measuring tools such as tape measures, squares, and protractors. 
  • Verify dimensions and inspect completed work to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards. 
  • Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and material handling equipment in a safe manner, as authorized. 
  • Collaborate with welders, 
  • engineers, and production personnel to resolve fabrication issues. 
  • Maintain accurate production records and report material shortages, equipment issues, or quality concerns. 
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment and work areas. 
  • Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, and personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines. 
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality, safety, efficiency, and workflow. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year fabrication experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn company systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions. 
  • Experience using standard fabrication equipment and hand tools. 
  • Basic mathematical skills, including fractions, decimals, geometry, and measurement conversions. 
  • Ability to safely lift and move materials within established guidelines. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and quality.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three or more years of metal fabrication experience. 
  • Experience working with stainless steel, carbon steel, or structural components. 
  • Experience with OEM equipment manufacturing or custom fabrication. 
  • Forklift and overhead crane experience. 

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Technical diploma or certificate in welding, metal fabrication, manufacturing technology, or a related field preferred.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing and fabrication environment. 
  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, noise, vibration, dust, fumes, and varying temperatures. 
  • Required use of personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, steel-toed footwear, and other PPE as necessary. 
  • May require overtime, weekend work, or schedule flexibility to meet production demands.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the workday. 
  • Frequent use of hands and arms for grasping, handling, reaching, and manipulating tools and materials. 
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, crouching, climbing, and reaching. 
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier items with assistance or material handling equipment. 
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read measurements, blueprints, and inspect finished work. 
  • Ability to safely operate fabrication equipment and material handling devices. 

Mental Demands

  • Ability to maintain concentration and accuracy in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. 
  • Ability to analyze drawings, specifications, and production requirements. 
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot fabrication issues and determine appropriate corrective actions. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting production schedules. 
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and production team members. 
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and production demands.
