Job Purpose
The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the efficient and safe operation of the wind turbine facility, which consists of 57 turbines with a capacity of 119.7 MW located in Idaho Falls, Idaho (Meadow Creek Wind Project). This includes day-to-day operations, maintenance, fiscal accountability, and administrative functions in line with corporate strategies and objectives, while ensuring the safety of all onsite personnel and equipment. Key focus areas include safety leadership, turbine availability, cost control, and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
Operational Leadership & Maintenance Oversight
- Oversee all operations and maintenance activities across the facility, including wind turbine generators (WTGs), substation systems, high-voltage (HV) equipment, collection systems, and balance of plant.
- Ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations through the development and implementation of site procedures and operational standards.
- Monitor operational performance data to identify trends, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions to improve reliability and availability.
Safety & Compliance
- Champion a strong safety culture and ensure strict adherence to all safety programs, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, including environmental standards and NERC/FERC requirements.
People Leadership
- Provide direct leadership to site personnel and contractors, including performance management, scheduling, training, and professional development.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performance team environment.
Financial & Contract Management
- Develop, manage, and control the site operating budget.
- Oversee site contracts and OEM warranties to ensure alignment with company standards and financial objectives.
- Drive cost-effective maintenance strategies to optimize performance and lifecycle value.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as a point of contact for utilities, regulatory agencies, local government, landowners, and community stakeholders.
Strategic Execution
- Drive turbine availability, reliability, and operational performance in alignment with company targets.
- Complete special projects and initiatives assigned by senior operations leadership.
- Support cross-project collaboration across the broader operations portfolio.
Travel & Availability
- Travel as required to support other Longroad Energy projects, attend meetings, and complete training.
- Maintain 24/7 on-call availability to support operational needs.
Minimum Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in operations and maintenance of a wind or energy facility, including demonstrated leadership responsibility.
- Experience with Budget and/or Project Management.
- Experience with contract execution and vendor management.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements in an energy environment.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Proficiency with computer applicable systems and operational software.
- Ability to perform essential physical job functions, including: Climbing wind turbines up to 300 feet, lifting up to 50 lbs overhead, wearing required safety equipment (up to 310 lbs total gear requirement)
- Valid driver’s license.
- 24/7 on-call availability.
- Ability to reside within commuting distance of the Meadow Creek Wind Project or willingness to relocate.
Desired/Preferred Qualifications
- Technical 4-year college degree or comparable certifications preferred.
- 5+ years supervisory experience.
- Experience with substation operations and high-voltage (HV) systems, including maintenance planning, troubleshooting, and coordination of work activities.
- Familiarity with NERC compliance requirements and reporting.
- Experience managing OEM service providers and third-party contractors.
