Position Summary: 

Our Finance team is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to play a key role in supporting the organization's financial operations, primarily for our Research and Development (R&D) program. This position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records while contributing to broader accounting functions across the organization.


The Senior Accountant will lead key activities including financial reporting, month-end close, monthly invoicing for U.S. Government (USG) contracts, budgeting, and financial analysis. This role also supports audits and helps ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.


Key Responsibilities:


 Month-End, Year-End & Budgeting

  • Prepare monthly U.S. Government (USG) invoices and related reconciliations, including labor distribution reporting and general ledger review
  • Collaborate with Finance, Program Controls, and R&D teams to develop annual budgets, forecast program costs, and project staffing needs
  • Support annual budgeting, financial reporting, and audit activities

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Maintain accurate financial records by reviewing, reconciling, and recording monthly transactions
  • Provide reconciled general ledger activity, BARDA invoices, and labor reporting data to support monthly Earned Value Management (EVM) reporting and program analysis.
  • Assist with monthly R&D financial reviews by maintaining financial planning models, updating actual results, validating formulas, and supporting financial analysis
  • Develop labor distribution reports using payroll and timekeeping data to verify personnel cost allocations and support U.S. Government (USG) invoicing requirements
  • Compile and review supporting documentation from Bill.com, American Express, and Paylocity for inclusion in monthly USG invoices
  • Support annual audits, including Uniform Guidance and Incurred Cost Submission (ICS) audits, by preparing schedules and providing requested documentation

Other Duties

  • Review R&D timesheet coding for accuracy, communicate coding updates, and work with staff to resolve discrepancies
  • Maintain R&D accounting structures in NetSuite, including the creation and management of fund codes
  • Identify opportunities to improve and automate financial reporting processes using technologies such as Smartsheet, SharePoint, and other business systems
  • Support the implementation and adoption of new financial systems, tools, and technologies
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field
  • Minimum of nine years of accounting experience, including U.S. Government (USG) contract accounting; six or more years supporting research, development, or grant-funded programs preferred
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. Government contracting requirements, cost principles, and invoicing processes
  • Proficiency with NetSuite, including NetSuite Planning & Budgeting (NSPB), or similar accounting software
  • Experience with Paylocity or similar payroll software
  • Experience with ClickTime or similar timekeeping software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, and Word, as well as Zoom video conferencing
  • Demonstrated integrity, accountability, flexibility, and a strong work ethic
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong ability to prioritize, manage multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills

Sabin’s philosophy is to ensure fair, unbiased, equitable, competitive compensation and benefits. Using benchmarking and salary survey data, the starting annual salary for this position ranges from $88,000 - $112,000. The exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, training, certifications/degree. As a grant-funded organization, Sabin actively seeks funding for existing and new programs.
