The Field Engineer will conduct both onsite and remote industrial asset surveys, partnering directly with customer maintenance and reliability teams to gather machine, facility, and environmental information needed to support successful sensor deployments and predictive maintenance initiatives. This role collaborates closely with Installation, Customer Success, Sales, Engineering, and Reliability teams, as well as plant and corporate stakeholders. As one of the first operational touchpoints for our customers, the Field Engineer plays a key role in understanding customer needs, developing practical solutions, and delivering an exceptional customer experience. Location: Based in the United States, ideally near an international airport hub

Travel: 80-100% travel - international travel required

Job Description:

This position will give you the opportunity to provide - 

  • Onsite Customer Assessments & Surveys: Conduct detailed onsite surveys in industrial environments to gather critical installation and asset information, including machine specifications, asset criticality, sensor type and placement recommendations, environmental considerations, network requirements, and other facility details necessary to support successful deployment of the Waites system. 
  • Project Solutioning: Assess client needs and environment, apply Waites product and system knowledge, solution installation needs, etc.
  • Sales & Reliability Subject Matter Expertise: Bring a consultative, solutions-oriented mindset to customer interactions by identifying opportunities to improve asset reliability and maintenance practices. Serve as a subject matter expert in predictive maintenance, condition monitoring, vibration analytics, and industrial operations.
  • Installation Support: Support domestic and international sensor installations as needed, partnering with internal teams to ensure installations are completed safely, efficiently, and according to Waites standards.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Accurately document site assessments, installation details, machine information, and customer requirements, maintaining detailed records that support deployment, service delivery, and future customer engagements. 
  • Scheduling and Oversight: Assume ownership of your own schedule including efficiently procuring travel accommodations and ensuring your deliverables are on time and thorough.
  • Process Development: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and refine processes that optimize the efficiencies and effectiveness.
  • Escalation of Needs: Identify and escalate issues, needs, and opportunities to other departments such as Customer Success, Sales, and Engineering as required to enhance the customer experience and project success.
  • Customer Delight: Focus on ensuring exceptional customer delight at every visit, addressing customer needs and concerns, and maintaining open lines of communication.
  • Other Responsibilities: Adapt to evolving company needs and take on additional responsibilities as required to support the department's success.
Requirements

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Experience in industrial equipment maintenance and repair, including gearboxes, electric motor repair, precision maintenance, and related techniques
  • Strong knowledge of industrial equipment, particularly bearing placement and fundamentals
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation
  • Electrical aptitude with a willingness to perform hands-on work
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets, documentation, and strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of safety awareness; OSHA certification preferred
  • Willingness and ability to work in heavy industrial environments (heat, humidity, loud noise, dust, grease, airborne particles, etc.) when visiting customer sites
  • Ability to follow directions, prioritize tasks, perform basic math accurately, and work effectively both independently and in a team setting
  • Flexibility to adapt to last-minute changes, with strong multitasking and prioritization skills
  • Self-starter with excellent organizational and time management abilities
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and eagerness to learn and grow
  • Commitment to ongoing training and staying current with industry standards
  • Valid driver’s license required; must possess or be able to obtain a passport for international travel

Working Conditions:

  • Walk, use hands to handle or operate tools, and reach with arms
  • Climb ladders and stairs, as well as crawl and kneel as needed
  • Sit, talk, listen, observe, read, write, and type effectively
  • Lift and move up to 50 pounds unassisted
  • Perform work on-site in industrial, commercial, and residential environments
