Description
- Operates backhoe, excavator, front-end loader, bulldozer and other equipment used in the maintenance of streets and the stormwater system.
- Operates vehicles and equipment to transport equipment, tool and supplies to and from work sites.
- Trims and prunes city trees; removes tree limbs and debris from streets and city property; installs trees and landscaping.
- Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment; performs pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Assists in traffic control at work sites.
- Installs and removes holiday decorations.
- Performs related duties.
Requirements
- Knowledge of the techniques, equipment, and supplies used in street, tree, and stormwater system maintenance.
- Knowledge of city and departmental safety policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the geography of the city, including street names and locations.
- Skill in the operation of assigned vehicles, trucks and heavy equipment.
- Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
- Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
