Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and patient-focused Expanded Registered Dental Assistant (ERDA) to join our dental team in Lady Lake, FL. This role is ideal for an experienced dental assistant who is looking to utilize their expanded clinical skills while working closely with dentists and the clinical team to provide exceptional patient care.

The ERDA will assist with patient preparation, clinical procedures, radiographs, infection control, documentation, and other expanded functions permitted within the scope of practice. The ideal candidate is confident in a fast-paced dental environment, communicates effectively with patients and team members, and takes pride in delivering a high level of clinical support.


Key Responsibilities


Clinical Responsibilities

  • Prepare treatment rooms and patients for dental procedures.
  • Assist the dentist during restorative, surgical, endodontic, and other dental procedures as appropriate.
  • Perform expanded dental assisting functions within the scope permitted by Florida regulations and the individual's credentials.
  • Take and process dental radiographs as permitted.
  • Assist with impressions, digital scans, temporary restorations, and other clinical procedures as applicable.
  • Prepare dental materials and instruments for procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Monitor patient comfort throughout treatment and communicate patient concerns to the dentist.
  • Provide appropriate post-operative and treatment instructions as directed by the dentist.
  • Assist with emergency procedures and maintain knowledge of office emergency protocols.

Patient Care

  • Welcome and prepare patients for treatment in a professional and compassionate manner.
  • Help patients feel comfortable and informed throughout their appointment.
  • Explain procedures and post-treatment instructions within the scope of the role.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA requirements.
  • Establish positive relationships with patients and contribute to an exceptional patient experience.

Infection Control & Safety

  • Follow OSHA, CDC, HIPAA, and practice infection-control standards.
  • Properly sterilize and disinfect instruments and treatment areas.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of clinical supplies and communicate supply needs to leadership.
  • Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized clinical environment.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with dentists, hygienists, treatment coordinators, and other clinical team members.
  • Anticipate the dentist's needs during procedures and maintain an efficient clinical flow.
  • Support the team in meeting patient care and operational goals.
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and continuing education opportunities.
  • Maintain a positive, professional, and collaborative work environment.

Qualifications

  • Current Florida Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA/Expanded Duties) credentials as required for the position.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification or ability to obtain as required.
  • Previous dental assisting experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with expanded dental assisting functions.
  • Knowledge of dental terminology, procedures, instruments, and materials.
  • Strong understanding of infection control and OSHA standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced dental practice.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Professional, dependable, and patient-focused approach.

Preferred Experience


Experience with one or more of the following is a plus:

  • Restorative dentistry
  • Oral surgery
  • Endodontics
  • Crowns and bridges
  • Impressions and temporary restorations
  • Digital scanning
  • Dental radiography
  • Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or other dental practice management systems
  • Digital imaging systems

Requirements

Education & Qualifications

Required Experience

  • No prior dental assisting experience required; completion of a dental assisting program or equivalent training strongly preferred. 
  • Strong attention to detail, a coachable attitude, and the ability to follow clinical protocols in a structured environment. 
  • Ability to communicate professionally with patients and team members in a fast-paced clinical setting. 

Required Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a formal dental assisting education program or certification course. 

Required Licensure & Certifications

  • State credentialing as required (e.g., Registered Dental Assistant, Certified Dental Assistant, or state equivalent). 
  • Current radiography certification as required by state. 

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in a dental office or healthcare clinical environment. 
  • Familiarity with dental practice management software. 
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and a team-oriented work ethic.
Salary Description
$18.00 - $26.00 per hour
