This position is responsible for performing a variety of sonographic studies in a variety of settings. The Ultrasound Technologist interprets physician instructions, explains ultrasound procedures to patients, changes imaging parameters and selects options while operating ultrasound equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform ultrasound procedures at a technical level requiring minimal supervision.
- Assist radiologist as necessary
- Work with lead technologists on development and maintenance of exam protocols
Enforce ultrasound safety for patients, visitors, and employees.
- Participating in safety plan development and execution
- Participate in drills to assess safety protocols
- Operate and document high level disinfection equipment
Follow through with patient exams and orders in the RIS, EMR, EHR.
- Ensure orders are entered correctly
- Enter appropriate charges based on exam(s) completed
Maintain ultrasound equipment.
- Generate work orders for equipment repairs and keep current on work order status as necessary
- Maintain working relationship with appropriate service engineer and/or physicist
Meet patient needs and conditions for exams.
- Work with relevant physicians to create exam protocols
- Partner with Lead Ultrasound Technologist to ensure new orders are correctly built in EMR and existing orders are valid/correct
Perform other duties as necessary or required by assignment
- Accept responsibility for students or prospective students placed in imaging department
- Take time to share experience and knowledge with future healthcare professionals
- Serve as a model professional

Education & Licensure:
- Registered by American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or registry eligible.
- Registered in Abdomen (AB), and/or OB/GYN, Registry eligible upon hire
- Registered in Vascular or registry eligible within 9 months of hire
- Current BLS Certification (through American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS course)
Experience:
- 2 years’ experience performing a variety of US studies (Vascular, OB, General, and Breast) desired
- 2 years’ experience performing a variety of US procedures (Biopsy, Paracentesis, Clip placement) desired
- Experience with GE a plus but not required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy of the head, thorax and abdomen, physiology and ultrasound technology practices and procedures
- Ability to multitask, work under pressure while maintaining quality standards
- Able to contribute to small group projects
- Work under general directions with little supervision
- Ability to understand oral and written instructions stated in medical and radiologic terms
- Use time efficiently maintaining department cleanliness and order
- Mechanical abilities are helpful
