Project Management Technical Writer
Description

The Project Management Technical Writer supports Project Management by producing accurate, controlled documentation that project teams can rely on. This includes translating site installation processes and material requirements into well-structured work instructions, procedures, and material lists — enabling consistency, compliance, and efficiency across all project phases. 

     

Travel Requirements: 20 %   

Location: Tea, SD (required to be on-site when not traveling)

  • Develop comprehensive job site scope documentation, including installation instructions and method of procedures (MOPs).
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Field Service, and Production teams to gather, analyze, and accurately document current workflows and processes. 
  • Generate first-hand knowledge of existing assembly methodologies; and translate technical and production requirements into clear, concise, step-by-step instructions tailored for field service technicians and/or contractor personnel.
  • Review customer specifications and verify that all documentation generated adheres to internal quality standards and applicable external requirements.
  • Oversee approval workflows and controlled document distribution to all relevant stakeholders for the lifecycle of projects.
  • Regularly review and revise existing documentation to align with evolving process changes, incorporating continuous improvement initiatives as they are implemented. 
  • Support project efforts by developing cut sheet manuals based on the project Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Organize version history and revision control of all scope documentation throughout project lifecycle.
  • Incorporate visuals (photos, diagrams, BOM references) to improve clarity and usability.
  • Validate lists of loose shipped material against installation instructions.
  • Occasionally travel to job sites located across the US to safely observe installation activities and gain knowledge of associated assembly and construction methodologies. 
Requirements

  

  • Associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience)
  • 2+ years of experience in manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to simplify technical content.
  • Experience with document control systems and revision management.   
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with OSHA safety standards.
  • Familiarity with Internationally recognized standards for Quality Management Systems (e.g., ISO 9001)
  • Demonstrated background in authoring detailed process plans, work instructions, or standard operating procedures (SOPs) within a technical or manufacturing context.
  • Proficiency with Solidworks software
  • Skilled in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, technical specifications, and schematics to support accurate documentation development.
  • Exceptional attention to detail combined with strong organizational skills to effectively manage concurrent documentation projects and competing deadlines.    
  • Highly organized with demonstrated skills in managing, structuring, and maintaining technical documentation across multiple concurrent projects. 
  • Background in manufacturing or production engineering, with a solid understanding of shop floor workflows and project lifecycles. 
  • Experience with safely observing and gaining knowledge in close proximity to heavy construction or manufacturing activities.
  • Analytical thinker with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving challenges efficiently within a fast-paced production environment. 
  • Proven ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and electrical layouts to support accurate and informed documentation. 
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems, including wire sizing standards, conduit/wireway/cable tray configurations, and wire and cable labeling conventions. 
  • Familiarity with engineering drawing review processes and an understanding of manufacturing best practices that inform documentation standards.
  • Comfortable working in close partnership with engineering and production teams, bridging communication across technical disciplines. 
  • Hands-on experience with BOM development and ERP system navigation to support project documentation and material tracking.
