FMG Afterschool Aide
Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Assists in the delivery of a high-quality child development program. Provides direct supervision of a

group of scholars and provides a quality experience to scholars and parents focused on YMCA core

values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Implements curriculum and program activities such as outdoor games, crafts, songs within the established guidelines.
  • Nurtures scholars through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
  • Supervises scholars, classroom or site, and all activities, breaks, and transitions, including ADA accommodations where appropriate.
  • Follows all policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Continuously scans a variety of environments and surrounding areas for potential hazards and takes appropriate action to remove or avoid them and informs senior staff.
  • Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each scholar.
  • Uses positive reinforcement techniques to address scholars’ behavioral concerns.
  • Encourages positive social skills and appropriate behavior by example.
  • Assist with homework.
  • Maintains program site and equipment.
  • Maintains required program records, including scholar attendance and check in/out.
  • Maintains a positive attitude towards scholars, parents, coworkers, school personnel, school, and site director
  • Attends staff meetings, trainings and completes all assigned on-line trainings.
  • Attends and participates in family nights, as well as program activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Basic knowledge of acceptable infant and childcare practices.
  • Ability to work and interact with a diverse group of children and parents. 
  • Demonstrates initiative to plan, lead and participate in activities. 
  • All required online trainings must be completed before starting work, which will be compensated for accordingly. 
  • Familiarity with mandated reporting and steps that need to be taken. 
  • Must have Health Screening and TB clearance.
  • Must have up to date TDAP, MMR vaccinations.
  • Criminal records clearance. 
  • Certifications (must be maintained and current at all times):
  • CPR & First Aid certifications through a nationally recognized organization.
  • Mandated Reporter certification.
  • Germ Management through California Department of Pesticide Regulation.



Salary Description
$16.90/hr
