Maintenance Worker
Description

To support the Diocese of Phoenix in its mission in service of the Body of Christ, this position, under the general supervision of the Director of Pastoral Care, assumes the responsibility to coordinate the maintenance work for the parish; performs skilled and semiskilled building maintenance and repairs requiring a working knowledge of carpentry, plumbing and minor electrical work; responsible for general upkeep and cleaning of the parish, school and the grounds; performs related work as required.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assures church buildings and grounds are maintained in a manner that provides a healthy, safe and attractive physical environment.
  • Supervises the janitor to make sure floors are mopped and vacuumed, bathrooms are clean, windows are washed, furniture is maintained, and the grounds are maintained in a clean and safe manner.
  • Performs minor maintenance of the rectory, school, church and office when needed.
  • Performs plumbing, electrical, carpentry and other minor repair work on the facilities when needed.
  • Performs minor construction, basic mechanical maintenance and implements preventative maintenance schedules on buildings and equipment.
  • Paints and repairs walls, repairs various types of furniture, doors, windows, floors, gates, roofs and ceilings.
  • Digs ditches and post holes as needed, repairs sidewalks as needed.
  • Prepares classrooms and meeting halls for special events and activities coordinating with the parish staff.
  • Researches, orders, and stores all supplies needed for maintenance and repairs.
  • Picks up supplies and parts from vendors as needed.
  • Researches and obtains bids for special projects as directed by Pastor/Principal
  • Maintains a list of vendors as needed for contracted services for landscape care, HVAC maintenance and pest control; assures work is done to specifications.
  • Additional Job Functions
  • Drive students on a minibus for special events and aftercare.
  • Performs any other job-related duties as directed by the pastor.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Working knowledge of standard tools, materials, methods and practices involved in building and grounds maintenance and repair, including, but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and painting.
  • Working knowledge of building codes.
  • Working knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Ability to supervise and train other maintenance staff.
  • Ability to provide own transportation for job-related responsibilities.
  • Ability to be available for emergencies as needed.
  • Ability to maintain a cooperative attitude and effective working relationship with parish employees, volunteers and parishioners.
  • Bilingual
  • Basic computer skills

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate of trade school or equivalent work experience.
  • Three years work experience in a similar position.
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license
