We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to work closely with our mechanical engineering and manufacturing teams to support the design, documentation, assembly, and continuous improvement of our electron beam equipment. This role is ideal for an early-career engineer looking to develop hands-on experience in industrial electrical systems, controls, and machine design while receiving mentorship from senior engineering staff.
The successful candidate will assist in developing electrical schematics and wire run lists, helping to standardize electrical designs for future machine offerings. They will also support the creation of manufacturing work instructions and documentation to ensure efficient wiring and assembly processes. While travel is not expected as part of the role, opportunities for domestic and international travel to customer sites may arise to support installations, troubleshooting, or technical projects.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist with the design, documentation, and implementation of electrical control systems under the guidance of senior engineering staff.
- Support the development and standardization of electrical schematics and wire run lists using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Work closely with the mechanical engineering team to ensure seamless integration of electrical and mechanical systems.
- Collaborate with manufacturing to provide technical support during machine wiring, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Support the development and maintenance of manufacturing SOPs, work instructions, and electrical documentation.
- Assist in evaluating existing electrical controls and wiring methods for opportunities to improve reliability, manufacturability, and performance.
- Help ensure engineering documentation released to manufacturing is complete, accurate, and up to date.
- Assist with migrating engineering documentation into the Autodesk Vault document management system.
- Support third-party controls consultants, including Opto22 programming efforts, to improve machine functionality and diagnostics.
- Assist with the evaluation and implementation of PLC hardware and electrical components for future machine designs.
- Perform electrical testing and validation using common test equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, and waveform/function generators.
- Basic understanding of electrical control systems and industrial wiring practices.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical or similar electrical CAD software.
- Experience using electrical test equipment, including waveform/function generators, oscilloscopes, and digital multimeters.
- Knowledge of PLC hardware and industrial controls is preferred.
- Exposure to MRP/ERP systems is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with engineering and manufacturing teams.
- Willingness to learn new technologies and develop professionally under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Opto22 programming experience is a plus but not required.
- Allen Bradley programming experience is a plus but not required.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 1-3 years of electrical engineering experience (internships and co-op experience will be considered).
- Experience with AutoCAD Electrical is preferred.
- Exposure to industrial automation, machine controls, or manufacturing environments is preferred.
- Experience with electrical testing equipment, including waveform/function generators, is preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to work in manufacturing and production environments as needed.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
