Job Summary

The SSI Account Representative supports PATHS' mission by assisting patients in applying for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits and identifying available financial resources. This role works directly with patients, families, healthcare providers, and insurance representatives to facilitate benefit applications, provide financial advocacy services, and ensure accurate documentation while maintaining compliance with HIPAA and healthcare regulations. The position is based out of PATHS' Allentown, PA office and supports patient advocacy and eligibility efforts for healthcare clients throughout the region.

Our 4 offices in PA, NJ, and DE are home to 400 employees and serve over 100 clients. Healthcare providers we service include hospitals, physician groups, rehabilitation facilities, skilled nursing facilities, clinics, emergency departments, medical transport, home health, and behavioral health providers.

  

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist patients in applying for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits.
  • Counsel patients regarding medical bills, insurance benefits, and available financial assistance programs.
  • Work directly with patients, physicians, nursing staff, pharmaceutical companies, and insurance carriers to obtain and verify required information.
  • Travel  to client facilities and healthcare provider locations as needed to provide patient support and program coverage.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with PATHS policies, client requirements, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Monitor application progress and follow up with patients and external agencies as necessary.
  • Meet established productivity, documentation, and quality standards.
  • Complete all required initial PATHS training (HIPAA, compliance, security, client  protocols, role-specific workflows) within onboarding timelines.
  • Participate in required ongoing training (compliance updates, client requirements, systems changes) and demonstrate ability to retain and apply new knowledge in daily work.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, including the ability to interact with diverse patient populations and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of protected health information (HIPAA compliance required).
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability  to meet established productivity and accuracy standards.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel); familiarity with healthcare systems and payer portals preferred.
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced healthcare environment and adapt to multiple client sites.

  

Education & Experience

  • High  school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous social work experience preferred.
  • Experience working in a healthcare facility, insurance billing, Medicaid eligibility, patient advocacy, or social services preferred.
  • Experience working with government assistance programs or SSI applications preferred.
  • Valid  driver's license, reliable vehicle, and current automobile insurance required.

  

Physical & Environmental Requirements

  • Prolonged  periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Frequent movement throughout hospitals and healthcare facilities.
  • Regular interaction with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds.
  • Must have reliable transportation and valid driver's license for travel to client facilities and healthcare provider locations as required.

Pre-Employment Requirements

Offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of applicable screenings consistent with federal, state, and local laws.

Screenings may include: criminal background check, drug screen, physical exam, PPD screening, and verification of immunization records.

Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required.

Employment eligibility will be verified through I-9/E-Verify.

Because PATHS operates in the healthcare industry, certain screenings (e.g., OIG/GSA exclusion checks, state Medicaid exclusion lists) may be conducted on a recurring basis as required by federal and state law, client contracts, and hospital compliance programs.

  

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour (actual range provided in postings as required by applicable state pay transparency laws).
