Job Title: Facilities & Kitchen Assistant
Reports To: Operations Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Part-time (25 hours/week)
Summary: The Facilities and Kitchen Assistant helps maintain a safe, healthy, and welcoming environment at BCC for children, families, and staff by providing daily cleaning services. This position is responsible for daily cleaning, sanitizing, and housekeeping tasks, as well as providing support in the kitchen. The assistant upholds a high standard of cleanliness throughout the center while demonstrating professionalism and commitment to the organization’s values.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists with cleaning, sanitizing and maintaining classrooms, offices, restrooms, common areas, and other facility spaces.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and disinfect surfaces according to established schedules and procedures.
- Empty trash and recycling receptacles and replenish supplies as needed.
- Assists with setting up and breaking down rooms for meetings, events, and activities.
- Reports maintenance, safety, or cleanliness concerns to the housekeeper and operations manager.
- Supports the Housekeeper in completing daily, weekly and seasonal cleaning projects.
- Supports the cook with cleaning related tasks after meal service, including washing dishes, utensils, cookware, kitchen equipment and helping to clean and sanitize work areas.
- Provides coverage and support for housekeeping and kitchen operations,, including meal prep support.
- Employee to be cross trained to cover for cook when needed.
Other Duties:
- May be asked to work adjusted hours on an occasional basis to provide operational support during staff absences, special events or other organizational needs.
- Complies with local and state Health & Safety regulations to ensure a safe working environment and proper use of chemicals.
- Required to participate in annual trainings for CACFP as specified by job role and duties.
- Performs additional related duties as assigned.
Education and Work Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Fluent in Spanish and English
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in food preparation or training
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in housekeeping in an institutional setting
- Valid Food Handler’s Certification from an accredited and state approved program to be completed within 3 months of hiring.
- Previous experience working in a school setting, early childhood education program, childcare center or similar education setting preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with staff.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Ability to apply principals of CACFP, safe food handling and sanitation.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to adapt to changes in room temperature
