The Trailer Operator is responsible for safe loading, transporting, unloading, and positioning trailers used to support construction, aggregate, and transportation operations. This position works closely with dispatch, drivers, mechanics, and operations personnel to ensure trailers are moved efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of safety and equipment care. The Trailer Operator may also perform inspections, basic maintenance, and yard organization to maximize fleet utilization.
What you'll do:
- Safely operate trucks and equipment used to move trailers between company facilities, jobsites, and customer locations.
- Hook and unhook a variety of trailers, ensuring proper connections and securement.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip, post-trip, and daily equipment inspections.
- Inspect trailers for damage, wear, tire condition, lights, brakes, and safety equipment.
- Ensure all trailers comply with DOT regulations and company safety standards.
- Position trailers for loading, unloading, maintenance, or storage.
- Coordinate trailer movements with dispatch and operations personnel.
- Assist drivers by staging trailers to improve operational efficiency.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and report mechanical issues promptly.
- Complete required inspection reports and maintenance documentation accurately.
- Maintain a clean and organized trailer yard.
- Assist with inventory and tracking of trailers and related equipment.
- Operate forklifts or other equipment as needed to assist with trailer operations.
- Secure loads and verify proper weight distribution when applicable.
- Follow all DOT, OSHA, FMCSA, and company safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate logs and documentation for trailer movements.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, drivers, mechanics, and supervisors.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
- Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.

- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred, or demonstrable equivalent.
- Must possess a Class A CDL with airbrakes and have the ability to obtain other endorsement.
- Previous experience operating trucks, trailers, or heavy equipment preferred.
- Experience in transportation, construction, or aggregate operations is preferred.
- Basic mechanical knowledge is a plus.
- Safely operate a vehicle for extended periods on roads and construction sites.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Stand, walk, climb, bend, and reach throughout the day.
- Enter and exit vehicles repeatedly.
- Work around dust, noise, fumes, and other typical construction conditions.
- Meet the requirements of the company’s PCP Level 4 screening.
