Landon School seeks an organized, detail-oriented, and service-focused Human Resources Generalist to support a broad range of daily HR operations including payroll, employee benefits, employee records management, onboarding/offboarding, background screenings, and more.

Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Generalist serves as a key member of the Business Office team, ensuring efficient and compliant HR operations while serving as a trusted resource for employees regarding HR matters. 


Responsibilities

Payroll Administration

  • Manage and process semi-monthly payrolls for all employees through Paylocity. 
  • Review payroll data for accuracy, including salary adjustments, stipends, overtime, leave balances, and deductions. 
  • Reconcile payroll reports and coordinate with the Finance Office, including preparing journal entries. 
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. 
  • Coordinate year-end payroll activities, including W-2 preparation and ACA reporting. 
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries promptly and professionally. 

Benefits Administration

  • Administer employee benefit programs including health, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, flexible spending accounts, retirement plan, employee housing, tuition remission, and other school sponsored benefits. 
  • Serve as primary contact for employee benefits questions. 
  • Ensure timely processing and recording of benefit invoices. 
  • Coordinate annual open enrollment periods and process changes after qualifying events.
  • Coordinate COBRA administration and employee leave-related benefits. 
  • Work closely with benefits brokers and third-party administrators reconciling invoices, conducting plan audits, and ensuring federal and state regulations are adhered to.

Human Resources Operations, Compliance, & Reporting

  • Maintain employee personnel files (electronic and physical) and HR records in accordance with applicable laws and school policies. 
  • Maintain compliance with FMLA, ADA, COBRA, FLSA, HIPAA, ERISA, and other employment regulations. 
  • Work closely with the Director of Human Resources and the CFO with annual budgeting, compensation reviews, and producing related employment agreements.
  • Assist with employee onboarding and offboarding processes including coordinating the school’s multistep pre-employment screening processes
  • Coordinate required HR reporting and surveys, including NAIS and other independent school benchmarking surveys. 
  • Prepare reports and analytics for school leadership as requested. 

Recruitment & Talent Support

  • Support hiring managers throughout the recruitment process by developing job descriptions and job announcements, advertising positions, scheduling interviews, and communicating with candidates as needed.  
  • Help equip hiring managers with the knowledge and tools to recruit while following federal, state and local employment laws.

Business Office Support

  • Support Business Office audit preparation and provide HR-related documentation. 
  • Assist with Human Resources related invoices and accounting entries.
  • Assist with special projects within the Business Office and Human Resources Department. 
  • Coordinate employee recognition, wellness, and engagement initiatives. 
  • Support employee training programs. 
  • Promote a culture of professionalism, responsiveness, and service. 
  • Other duties as assigned



Requirements


Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, accounting, finance, or related field. 
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in human resources, payroll, benefits administration, or related field. 
  • Strong knowledge of payroll processing and employment regulations. 
  • Experience with HRIS and payroll systems. 
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 

Preferred

  • Experience in an independent school, educational institution, or nonprofit organization. 
  • Experience using Paylocity
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or related certification. 
  • Knowledge of Federal and Maryland employment law and independent school HR practices.
