Description

Position Summary

Maine Veterans' Homes is seeking a Development Coordinator to lead its philanthropic program across six residential care facilities statewide. Reporting directly to the CEO, this person will bring professional fundraising expertise to an organization with strong community roots and real philanthropic potential. The role coordinates and builds on the donor relationships already cultivated at the home level.

After a period without dedicated development staff, the organization is ready to rebuild and advance its fundraising program with focused, professional leadership.


Key Responsibilities

Fundraising Strategy

  • Set   annual fundraising goals in partnership with the CEO; build and execute strategies to meet them
  • Manage  the annual fund: direct mail appeals, email campaigns, and calendar sponsorship solicitation in collaboration with Marketing on content and production.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward a personal portfolio of major gift prospects; partner with the CEO on significant asks

Multi-Site Coordination

  • Coordinate solicitation activity across all six homes to prevent duplication and      ensure consistent messaging
  • Coach and support Home Administrators and Resident Activities Directors on donor      engagement
  • Capture donor interactions from home-level staff and ensure accurate, timely      records in CharityProud

Donor Database Oversight

  • Set  standards for how customer relationships and databases is used organizationally — what data is captured, how it's maintained, and how it informs strategy
  • Guide the administrative staff responsible for gift entry and acknowledgment letters
  • Lead continued optimization of the platform as a strategic fundraising tool

Stewardship and Retention

  • Ensure acknowledgment is timely and appropriate at all giving levels
  • Build and monitor donor retention practices

Board Partnership

  • Provide regular development updates to the CEO and periodic reports to the Board
  • Support the Board’s engagement in philanthropy as that role develops over time

Shift:

 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday, day shift. Hybrid work schedule based on operational needs, requiring a combination of remote work and in-person attendance at the Home Office as needed. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to support fundraising events, donor stewardship activities, and community engagement.

Requirements

Qualifications


Required

  • 2–3 years of experience in nonprofit development, donor relations, or      community fundraising; candidates with non-traditional backgrounds who      have demonstrated success building philanthropic relationships are      encouraged to apply
  • Strong relationship-building skills; ability to cultivate trust and make asks at      multiple giving levels
  • Clear, mission-centered communicator — in writing and in person
  • Organized and self-directed; able to manage a multi-site program with competing      priorities
  • Valid driver's license; willingness to travel statewide

Preferred

  • CFRE credential or active pursuit (MVH has expressed interest in supporting  professional development in this area)
  • Experience with donor database or CRM platforms — understanding data not just as a record-keeping tool but as a strategic asset
  • Background in veterans' services, healthcare, or senior care
  • Familiarity with grant writing and funder relations
  • Experience working with a nonprofit Board of Trustees 
Salary Description
$60,000–$70,000 Yearly
