POSITION OVERVIEW
The Commercial Lines Account Manager supports the growth and retention of commercial insurance accounts by partnering with Producers to deliver exceptional client service and account management. This role assists with new business marketing, quoting, and placement activities, while also managing ongoing service needs, pre-renewal planning, and renewal processes for existing clients. Working closely with Producers, clients, and insurance carriers, the Commercial Lines Account Manager ensures accounts are properly marketed, serviced, and renewed, while identifying opportunities to enhance coverage and strengthen client relationships. Success in this role requires strong insurance knowledge, attention to detail, organizational management, effective communication skills, and a commitment to supporting agency growth and client retention objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
New Business
• Partners with Producers to support new business development activities and facilitate the quoting and placement of prospective accounts.
• Assists Producers in gathering underwriting information, applications, loss runs, and other documentation required for submission to insurance carriers.
• Reviews new business submissions for completeness, accuracy, and marketability.
• Markets new business opportunities to insurance carriers and wholesalers.
• Obtains, analyzes, and compares carrier quotations, coverage options, and pricing alternatives.
• Prepares proposals, coverage comparisons, and presentation materials for Producer review and client presentations.
• Assists Producers in developing coverage recommendations tailored to client exposures, operational risks, and insurance needs.
• Coordinates underwriting requests, carrier communications, and follow-up activities necessary to secure quotations and bind coverage.
• Monitors quoting timelines and ensures submission and carrier response deadlines are met.
• Prepares binders, certificates, policies, and related documentation for newly written accounts.
• Reviews issued policies to verify accuracy of coverage, endorsements, forms, classifications, and limits.
• Facilitates the onboarding process for new clients and serves as a primary service contact following policy inception.
• Documents all client, carrier, and prospect interactions within the agency management system.
• Maintains compliance with agency procedures, carrier guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinates with Producers, carriers, and internal staff to ensure a seamless transition from prospect to client.
• Identifies opportunities for additional coverages and account rounding during the new business process.
Retention
• Serves as a primary service contact for assigned commercial accounts and develops strong working relationships with clients, carriers, and business partners.
• Works closely with Producers to service and maintain assigned accounts throughout the policy term.
• Collaborates with Producers to develop account strategies that support retention, client satisfaction, and account growth objectives.
• Conducts pre-renewal reviews of assigned accounts to identify exposure changes, coverage gaps, loss trends, and marketing opportunities.
• Assists Producers in preparing for renewal meetings by gathering underwriting information, updating exposure data, and preparing renewal analyses.
• Coordinates renewal marketing efforts, including obtaining updated underwriting information and soliciting renewal or alternative quotations from carriers when appropriate.
• Prepares renewal proposals, coverage comparisons, and account summaries for Producer and client review.
• Works with Producers to present renewal recommendations and implement coverage changes based on client needs.
• Processes endorsements, policy changes, certificates of insurance, audits, and other service requests in a timely and accurate manner.
• Monitors account activity throughout the year to ensure coverage adequacy and address evolving client exposures.
• Responds promptly to client inquiries regarding coverage, policy administration, billing, and claims matters.
• Assists clients with claims reporting and facilitates communication between clients, Producers, and carriers throughout the claims process.
• Negotiates with carriers regarding coverage, pricing, and renewal terms to support retention objectives.
• Maintains renewal schedules and ensures all pre-renewal, renewal, and post-renewal activities are completed within established timelines.
• Identifies opportunities for account rounding, cross-selling, and upselling additional insurance products and services.
• Maintains accurate and complete documentation of all account activity within the agency management system.
• Supports agency retention goals through proactive account stewardship, exceptional customer service, and effective collaboration with Producers.
• Ensures compliance with agency policies, carrier requirements, and applicable insurance regulations.
• Participates in client meetings, stewardship reviews, renewal strategy discussions, and other account planning activities as requested by Producers.
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
• A B.S. or B.A. degree in a related field preferred.
• A minimum of one (1) to three (3) years' experience in a related position normally required.
• Valid Insurance License for assigned state required (or must be obtained within 60 days of start date).
• Completion of CISR or CIC designation preferred.
• Experience using AMS360 or similar agency management system strongly preferred.
• Regular and predictable attendance is required.
• This is an on-site position, not eligible for remote work.
SKILLS
Comprehensive understanding of insurance products and services, with a strong focus on commercial lines coverage. Working knowledge of agency operations, including claims administration, carrier rating practices, agency management systems, and applicable insurance laws and regulations. Familiarity with insurance underwriting and rating methodologies. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and experienced in using agency management systems. Capable of effectively managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Must be able to perform essential physical functions, including sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, handling objects, and lifting up to 40 pounds. Requires effective visual, auditory, and verbal communication skills, as well as a valid driver's license.
