The Guidance Center (TGC) is the Community Mental Health Center and Certified Behavioral Health Clinic serving Leavenworth, Atchison, and Jefferson counties in Kansas. The Guidance Center (TGC) is currently seeking a Mobile Peer Support Specialist to be the newest member of our innovative interdisciplinary team. The MPSS will work collaboratively with a team to provide crisis care to clients in the community. Our MPSS is responsible for providing mobile mental health crisis and outreach services to Leavenworth, Atchison, and Jefferson Counties. MPSS’s are dedicated to resolving emergency situations by providing brief and intensive services with the goal of reducing the need for hospitalization and diverting from justice system contact. MPSS will additionally provide individual and group related support designed to promote skills for coping with and managing psychiatric symptoms at Guiding Lights Crisis Stabilization Center. Evenings Required (1+ days per week after 5 p);Weekends Required.

- Competitive hourly rate of $20.87 to $23.28, depending upon qualifications.
Primary Duties:
- Respond across Leavenworth, Atchison and Jefferson County as part of a 2-person team, providing mobile crisis interventions to a variety of individuals in crisis. (Must be able to respond on site within one hour)
- Engaging individuals experiencing a behavioral health crisis by building rapport, assessing motivation, and encouraging participation in services.
- Using a Strengths Based perspective to assess individuals' circumstances to identify needs and/or determine resource eligibility.
- Initiate de-escalation procedures when appropriate, consistent with MANDT and Mental Health First Aid procedures.
- Maintain effective and cooperative working relationship with TGC staff as well as referral sources and community partners through accurate, timely, and professional communication.
- Adapt to changing work priorities and a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism
- Meet HIPAA standards for confidentiality of medical records
- Comply with TGC’s Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, rules, regulations, and standards of conduct relating to the Corporate Compliance Policy. The employee understands that he/she has a duty and obligation to report any suspected violations of the Corporate Compliance Policy to the Corporate Compliance Officer or the Executive Director.
- Abide by the Personnel Policies and Practices of TGC, including ethical standards, as adopted by the Governing Board, and to represent the Center positively to the community.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or TGC management staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:
Required: Must be at least 18 years old, and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Some post-high school education in the field of Human Services
EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- Must self-identify as a former primary consumer of behavioral healthcare services and lived experience.
- Must have had no psychiatric hospital admissions for a minimum of one year.
