Description
PURPOSE STATEMENT
This position is responsible for serving as a patient advocate by helping patients understand their financial obligations and identifying solutions that support timely payment while maintaining access to care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Use AIDET when greeting patients/customers either on the phone or in person.
- Verify insurance coverage and eligibility.
- Generate and communicate patient estimates prior to their scheduled appointment.
- Screening patients for Financial Assistance.
- Advising patients of any CoPays, Coinsurance and/or Deductible amounts and requesting deposits prior to their scheduled appointments.
- Providing patients with different payment plan options including payment plans with Clear Balance.
- All messages left before 3:30PM Monday through Friday must be returned within 2 hours.
- Assist departments and clinics with questions regarding cost of services.
- Handle inquiries from patients/customers as needed after identification has been verified.
- Assist co-workers as needed/requested.
- Maintain a positive rapport with all customers.
- Appropriately handles telephone and email communications.
- Support the Medical Center’s Mission/Vision/Philosophy positively.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Perform other essential duties as assigned.
Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous medical billing/collecting experience required, minimum of 1 year of experience preferred.
- Good understanding of Fair Lending guidelines and collection policies.
- Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 8 to 10 hours a day.
- Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard.
- Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
- Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
- Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition.
- Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to lift and/or carry up to 40 lbs.
- Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
