Financial Planning and Advanced Planning Lead

We are seeking a strategic, results-oriented Financial Planning and Advanced Planning Lead to join our leadership team. In this role, you will be the architectural force behind our firm’s sophisticated planning offering. You will own the integration, scalability, and technical delivery of our advanced planning services, ensuring that we provide seamless, high-impact solutions for our most complex business-owner clients. You will lead a high-performing team, fostering technical excellence and operational consistency across the firm.


Location: This position is based in Des Moines, IA. A hybrid work schedule is available, with a mix of in-office and remote work to support collaboration, flexibility, and business needs.


What You’ll Do


Service Model Development & Process Ownership

  • Design, document, and champion the firm’s advanced planning service models.
  • Drive continuous improvement of these models to ensure scalability, quality control, and a consistent client experience across the organization.

Complex Business Owner Client Solutions

  • Serve as the senior subject matter expert for business owner clients.
  • Architect sophisticated strategies regarding ownership transitions, cash flow optimization, and multi-generational wealth preservation for complex organizational structures.

Advanced Financial Planning Integration

  • Facilitate the seamless integration of advanced planning services across all Subject Matter Expert (SME) teams.
  • Act as the connective tissue between planning, tax, legal, and investment teams to ensure comprehensive, holistic client outcomes.

Financial Planning Tools & Technology Adoption

  • Oversee the firm’s technology stack, with a primary focus on Money guide pro and related planning platforms.
  • Ensure team-wide proficiency and effective usage of these tools to deliver data-driven, consistent, and high-quality planning output.

Lead, Manage, and Hold Accountable (LMA)

  • Directly lead, mentor, and manage a team of planning professionals.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous professional development, and alignment with the firm's overarching performance goals.

Exit & Succession Planning (CEPA)

  • Lead the firm’s Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA) methodology.
  • Integrate exit planning into the standard financial planning lifecycle, ensuring that CEPA-driven insights are fully reflected in eMoney reports and overall portfolio strategies.

Compensation: The anticipated salary for this position is $90,000-$115,000, based on your level of experience and technical expertise.


Requirements

Experience: 8+ years in comprehensive financial planning, specifically working with ultra-high-net-worth and business-owner clients.


Credentials: CFP® required. JD, LLM, CPA, or ChFC® are highly preferred.


Leadership: Proven track record in managing direct reports and leading cross-functional teams within a financial services environment.


Technical Proficiency: Expert-level fluency in eMoney and institutional retirement plan design software.


Communication: Ability to distill complex tax, legal, and business-transition concepts into actionable strategies for clients and internal stakeholders.




Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time in an office environment.
  • Working on a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 15 pounds.
