Role:
As a Principal within our Chemicals Practice, you will serve as a high-impact executive leader driving market growth, spearheading complex client transformations, and cementing the firm’s reputation as a premier industry thought leader. This role demands a sophisticated blend of macro-strategic vision and deep operational fluency. You will partner with C-suite executives to navigate the unique volatility, supply chain complexities, and sustainability shifts facing chemical manufacturers and process-intensive organizations.
This is a partner-track role designed for an entrepreneurial leader who thrives at the intersection of business development, delivery excellence, and team mentorship.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Client Engagement & Deliverables:
- Executive Strategy: Serve as the trusted advisor to C-suite and senior VPs (Operations, R&D, Sustainability) at major CPI (Chemical Process Industries) clients, guiding decisions on capital allocation, portfolio shifts, and operational footprint.
- Problem Solver: Lead the diagnosis and resolution of the most critical, complex client problems, which often include:
- Process Optimization: Driving significant Operational Excellence initiatives, including Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) across production sites.
- Strategic Direction: Define and articulate the strategic vision for client projects, overseeing the development of high-impact, data-driven solutions and managing implementation risk.
- Quality Assurance: Own the delivery of all projects, ensuring that final recommendations are technically sound, commercially viable, and lead to measurable, sustained client value.
Business Development and Growth:
- Revenue Generation: Proactively identify, qualify, and lead the pursuit of new business opportunities.
- Practice Leadership: Define and execute the regional or functional growth strategy for the CPI practice, aligning market opportunities with the firm's service offerings.
- Proposal Development: Lead the development, writing, and presentation of compelling proposals, statements of work (SOWs), and pitches that clearly articulate the firm's value proposition.
- Key Account Management: Oversee strategic client relationships, ensuring portfolio growth and deep penetration into critical accounts.
- Thought Leadership: Author high-impact white papers, presentations, and industry viewpoints on key CPI trends (e.g., advanced materials, digital manufacturing, regulatory shifts like TSCA/REACH), elevating the firm's brand and creating client demand.
Firm and People Leadership:
- Technical Mentor: Lead, mentor on professional development and provide deep technical guidance and mentorship to consulting teams, ensuring consultants develop expertise in core CPI domains (e.g., process safety, continuous process improvement, supply chain logistics).
- Intellectual Capital: Contribute significantly to the firm’s thought leadership, developing new service offerings, methodologies, and publishing relevant industry insights.
- Capability Building: Drive the creation of proprietary methodologies, benchmarking tools, and digital solutions tailored specifically for the chemical industry.
- Internal Operations: Participate in firm-wide strategic planning, recruiting, and practice development initiatives to ensure sustained growth and reputation of the firm.
Education:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemicals, Engineering, Business, or a related field. An MBA or advanced technical degree is highly preferred.
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., P.E., Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt).
Experience
- 20+ years of progressive experience, with a significant tenure at a top-tier management consulting firm (Big 4, MBB, or boutique sector specialist) as a Senior Manager, Director, or Principal role
- Industry Expertise: Deep domain knowledge across Chemicals Plant Operations (e.g., continuous process improvement, process design, process engineering, production management, maintenance/reliability management, yield improvement) within commodity chemicals, specialty materials, polymers, or agribusiness.
- Proven Track Record: Demonstrated ability to originate $1M+ annually in consulting revenue and successfully lead large, multi-disciplinary engagement teams (from sales/scoping through final delivery and evaluation.
Technical Competencies:
- Data-Driven Insight: The ability to leverage complex operational data to quantify opportunities and build robust business cases for strategic investments.
- Delivery Mastery: Proven track record of managing $1M+ engagements and leading cross-functional teams (including offshore or third-party vendors).
- Ability to effectively design, gain alignment and successfully execute significant change initiatives from project start to finish.
- A track record of successfully driving throughput, up-time and overall plant improvement programs is required.
Professional Competencies:
- Communication & Presence: Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including executive-level presentation and negotiation skills.
- Client Relationship Management: Proven ability to build, maintain, and expand deep, trust-based relationships with clients.
- Ability to prioritize, manage time effectively, escalate issues appropriately, and keep information confidential is critical to this position.

Compensation:
The wage range for this role considers a wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions including skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At EFESO, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The salary range for this position is $180.000-$230.000.
