Construction Technician
Description

The construction tech will perform a wide variety of tasks for maintenance of existing buildings or new construction, to ensure the best environment possible for our animals and employees.


Essential Tasks: 

  • Maintenance of existing buildings. 
  • New building construction. 
  • Various general and finish carpentry tasks. 
  • General masonry installation / maintenance tasks. 
  • Installation / maintenance of automated feed systems. 
  • Advise management on condition of structures / equipment and if preventative maintenance needs to be performed.
  • Communicate with the Construction Supervisor to layout jobs and efficiently use resources and materials to complete work in a timely manner and of high quality while conforming to building and safety codes. 
  • Ensure proper care, use and maintenance of equipment and supplies. 
  • Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety, environmental practices, efficiency of systems, etc. to ensure a positive environment for our animals and employees. 
  • Preserve maintenance records as required by Marshall Farms or by other regulatory agencies. 
  • Other duties as specified by management
Requirements

Education: 

Minimum of 2 years education/experience that demonstrates proficiency in principles and practices of general carpentry. 

Basic computer skills may be required for email, Word, Excel, workorder system, etc. 

Requires valid NYS driver’s license.


Competency Requirements: 

Capable of effectively and consistently performing essential tasks daily. 

Ability to work efficiently and safely independently or with others. 

Ability to work effectively unsupervised.

Ability to combine specialized skills and knowledge of various construction methods and techniques using all types of building materials to efficiently complete daily tasks. 

Must have good attention to details and ability to plan/prioritize work for efficiency. 

Ability to operate various types of vehicles / equipment safely. (Box van, trucks, scissor lifts, man-lifts, forklift, etc.)

Work Conditions: Work completed both indoors and out at new construction and existing sites. Individual may be subject to changing weather conditions when working outdoors. Temperatures will be variable. Hearing protection may be required. 

Duties are performed primarily on 1st shift with varying extended hours including occasional weekend work, emergency situations, required to be part of an on-call rotation and willing to be part of snow removal team if needed. 

Must be clean shaven or willing to shave at a moment’s notice to properly wear a respirator / N95 mask if needed. Required to adhere to Barrier Affidavit requirements.


Physical Requirement: Physical requirements include considerable use of arms and legs including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, and handling of materials. Work may be strenuous at times and include lifting heavy objects, standing, stooping, and kneeling for long periods of time. This position requires manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination and physical fitness. Ability to work at various heights and in confined spaces.


Mental Requirement: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and various levels of management if needed. Ability to apply problem solving skills and know when something is beyond one’s capabilities and request help from other qualified employees when needed.


Safety Training: Attend required safety training as it relates to the position and as defined in the training database.


Hours for this role are 7am - 3:30pm with a weekend rotation. 

This position is a grade F4 with a pay range of $20.69 - $31.05/hour.
