Description

The Senior Network Administrator is responsible for the architecture, administration, security, and optimization of the credit union’s network and infrastructure systems. This includes LAN/WAN design, firewalls, switching, wireless networks, VPNs, telecommunications, server environments, and network monitoring.

The role ensures high availability, strong cybersecurity posture, and compliance with FFIEC, NCUA, and GLBA requirements. The Senior Network Administrator leads infrastructure projects, mentors IT staff, and collaborates with leadership on long-term technology planning.

This position reports to the Director of IT/Information Security Officer and is an in-office position located in Ballston Spa, NY.

Key Responsibilities

Network Architecture & Administration

  •  Design, implement, and maintain LAN/WAN infrastructure across four branch locations.
  •  Manage advanced configurations for firewalls, routers, switches, VLANs, routing protocols, and VPNs.
  •  Lead network modernization initiatives (SD-WAN, segmentation, wireless redesign, redundancy improvements).
  •  Ensure high availability, performance, and scalability of all network systems.

Cybersecurity Leadership

  •  Own the network security stack, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection, MFA, and patching.
  •  Monitor for threats, vulnerabilities, and anomalous activity using SIEM and network monitoring tools.
  •  Lead cybersecurity audits, penetration tests, and remediation efforts.
  •  Maintain compliance with FFIEC, GLBA, NCUA, and internal security policies.
  •  Develop and maintain network-related disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

Systems & Infrastructure Administration

  •  Support and optimize server environments (Windows Server, Active Directory, virtualization platforms).
  •  Manage backups, storage systems, and cloud integrations (Microsoft 365, Azure).
  •  Oversee system patching, lifecycle management, and infrastructure documentation.

Telecommunications & Branch Connectivity

  •  Understanding of telecommunications and VoIP to support when needed.
  •  Ensure reliable connectivity for branches, ATMs/ITMs, and remote services.
  •  Troubleshoot and resolve complex connectivity issues.

Leadership, Collaboration & Support

  •  Serve as the highest-level escalation point for networking and infrastructure issues.
  •  Mentor and train the IT Staff. Assist management in department growth.
  •  Collaborate with leadership on technology strategy, budgeting, and risk management.
  •  Lead infrastructure-related projects, upgrades, and vendor engagements.

Documentation & Governance

  •  Maintain detailed network diagrams, configuration records, and asset inventories.
  •  Document standards, procedures, and change management activities.
  •  Participate in IT governance, risk assessments, and regulatory reviews.
Requirements

Qualifications

Required

  •  Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field; or equivalent experience.
  •  5–8+ years of progressively responsible experience in network administration.
  •  Expert-level knowledge of networking technologies (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, VPNs).
  •  Hands-on experience with enterprise-grade firewalls (Fortinet, Cisco, etc).
  •  Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks and regulatory requirements.
  •  Experience with virtualization (Hyper-V), Windows Server, and Active Directory.
  •  Proven ability to lead projects and mentor junior staff.

Preferred

  •  Experience in financial services or other regulated industries.
  •  Certifications such as CCNP, CCNA, Security+, CySA+, and Fortinet NSE.
  •  Experience with cloud networking, SD-WAN, and SIEM platforms.
Salary Description
$95,000 to $120,000
