The Morgan Library & Museum welcomes applications for its 2026–2027 Academic Year Internship program. The program provides an introduction to the variety of career opportunities available in museums and special collections libraries. Each intern is assigned to a department relevant to their interest and works with departmental staff on timely topics in that area. Interns also have the opportunity to learn about the Morgan and the museum and special collections fields more generally through professional development opportunities such as facility tours and meetings with museum leadership.
The Morgan especially seeks to provide opportunities to candidates with experiences and perspectives that have not been adequately reflected in the museum and special collections library fields.
Academic year interns generally work up to 14 hours per week, beginning in mid-September and running through early to mid-May. Some internships have specific scheduling requirements as noted in the descriptions below. Interns are expected to make every effort to attend the program’s professional development programs, which may require modifying their schedule from time to time. All internships are on-site at the Morgan.
Accounting Internship:
The Accounting Department internship provides exposure to the financial operations and business administration of a nonprofit cultural institution. The intern will assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general accounting work. Responsibilities include support recordkeeping and financial reporting. The intern will also help review current processes and support improvements that use technology. The internship may also include exposure to investment and endowment-related work when available. By the end of the internship, the intern will have a practical understanding of non-profit accounting in a museum setting.
Eligibility:
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student
- Strong interest in a career in the museum or research library fields
- Eligibility to work in the United States; international candidates must be eligible to participate in a paid internship program in the United States
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Compensation: $19 per hour.
