Description

 We are seeking an analytical, detail-oriented, and dependable Staff Accountant to support the day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, intercompany activity, and financial analysis functions for multiple companies involved in surface mining, wholesale product sales, and trucking/logistics operations. This role supports the Controller and finance leadership team by helping ensure transactions are accurately recorded, properly coded by legal entity, and supported with reliable documentation. 

  

Key Responsibilities

· Maintain accurate accounting records for multiple legal entities.

· Prepare journal entries and support documentation.

· Complete account reconciliations and research discrepancies.

· Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.

· Support intercompany transactions, allocations, and reconciliations.

· Support and review AP, AR, fixed assets, and cash reconciliation activities.

· Review transactions for proper company, department, location, and cost center coding.

· Prepare financial reports, schedules, and account analysis.

· Support audit, tax, banking, and compliance requests.

· Maintain organized accounting records and documentation.

· Work with operations, sales, trucking, HR, payroll, purchasing, and management teams.

· Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and controls.


Requirements

 · Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required

· 3-5 years of accounting experience preferred.

· Experience in a multi-company, multi-location, or multi-state business environment preferred.

· Knowledge of Great Plains and Jet Reports is a plus.

· Experience in construction materials, mining, manufacturing, trucking, logistics, wholesale distribution, or similar industries is strongly preferred.

  · Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through.

· Ability to manage accounting activity across multiple companies, locations, departments, and cost centers.

· Understanding of general ledger accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliations.

· Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

· Good judgment and ability to protect confidential information.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Willingness to ask questions, escalate issues appropriately, and take ownership of assigned work.

· Professional demeanor when working with internal departments, vendors, customers, auditors, and leadership.

· Ability to work independently while supporting a team-oriented finance function.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, formulas, and analysis of large data sets.

· Ability to work with accounting software, ERP systems, banking platforms, and reporting tools.

· Ability to create and maintain reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation.

· Experience with fixed assets, intercompany transactions, inventory accounting, or cost accounting is a plus.
