ECKAN Head Start is looking for a Family Educator to join our team and provide meaningful, home-based services to young children and their families. In this role, you will work directly with families in their homes, helping parents support their children's development, school readiness, health, and overall well-being. You will build strong relationships with families, connect them with community resources, and work with the Head Start team to provide comprehensive services.


What You'll Do

  • Conduct weekly 90-minute home visits with children and families.
  • Support parents as the primary educators of their children.
  • Provide age-appropriate activities that promote children's learning and development.
  • Support children's school readiness and monitor developmental progress.
  • Conduct developmental screenings and ongoing assessments.
  • Help families establish individualized goals for children.
  • Provide families with information and support on children's health, nutrition, mental health, dental health, and development.
  • Connect families with community resources and provide referrals when needed.
  • Support families during times of crisis and help identify appropriate resources.
  • Encourage parent involvement in Head Start activities, curriculum planning, and program governance.
  • Participate in parent meetings, family events, staff meetings, training, and professional development.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and confidential family records.
  • Collaborate with Head Start Coordinators and other staff to provide comprehensive services to children and families.
  • Establish positive relationships with community partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Associate degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Psychology, or a closely related field preferred. Relevant education, training, volunteer experience, or other related experience may also be considered.
  • Knowledge of Head Start and early childhood development preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children and families is a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with children and families.
  • Ability to work independently while being part of a team.
  • Good organizational, documentation, and computer skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet ECKAN's applicable insurance requirements.
  • Must successfully complete required background, KBI, and health screenings.
  • Ability to travel to families' homes and other community locations.
  • Ability to kneel, stoop, bend, sit on the floor, and participate in activities with young children.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds.
Salary Description
$18-$21
