 The Hotel Housekeeper is responsible for cleaning and maintaining guest rooms, public areas, and hotel facilities to ensure a safe, sanitary, and inviting environment. This position requires attention to detail, efficiency, and a commitment to delivering exceptional hospitality through cleanliness and presentation.

Essential Responsibilities

Guest Room Cleaning

  • Clean assigned guest rooms according to hotel standards.
  • Make beds with fresh linens and replace towels and amenities.
  • Dust, vacuum, sweep, and mop floors.
  • Clean and sanitize bathrooms, including showers, tubs, sinks, toilets, mirrors, and fixtures.
  • Replenish toiletries, coffee supplies, and guest amenities.
  • Remove trash and recyclables.
  • Inspect rooms to ensure they are guest-ready before reporting them as clean.

Public Area Cleaning

  • Maintain cleanliness of hotel lobbies, hallways, elevators, stairwells, public restrooms, and common areas.
  • Empty trash receptacles and replace liners.
  • Dust furniture, artwork, and decorative fixtures.
  • Clean windows, glass doors, and mirrors as assigned.

Laundry & Linen

  • Collect, sort, and transport soiled linens and towels.
  • Restock housekeeping carts with clean linens and supplies.
  • Report damaged linens and missing inventory.
  • Assist with laundry operations as needed.

Quality & Safety

  • Follow hotel cleaning procedures and brand standards.
  • Safely use cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Comply with OSHA, hotel safety policies, and infection-control procedures.
  • Immediately report maintenance issues or safety hazards.
  • Secure guest rooms and protect guest privacy and property at all times.

Guest Service

  • Greet guests warmly and professionally.
  • Respond courteously to guest requests.
  • Report lost and found items according to hotel policy.
  • Notify management of guest concerns or special requests.

Qualifications

  • Previous housekeeping or hotel experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Dependable with excellent attendance.
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with guests and team members.

Physical Requirements

  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and climb throughout the shift.
  • Lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Push housekeeping carts throughout the property.
  • Perform repetitive cleaning tasks for extended periods.

Schedule

  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays.
  • Flexible schedule based on hotel occupancy.
  • Typical shifts are daytime hours with occasional extended shifts during peak occupancy.

Performance Expectations

Housekeepers are expected to:

  • Clean guest rooms within established productivity standards (typically 30–40 minutes per occupied room, depending on room condition).
  • Meet hotel quality inspection standards.
  • Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Deliver friendly, professional service to every guest.
  • Protect guest privacy and maintain confidentiality.
