The Facilities Manager is responsible for leading the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of the site’s facility utilities and infrastructure systems, with primary emphasis on ammonia refrigeration, boilers/steam systems, compressed air, HVAC, water systems, wastewater support, building systems, and related utility assets.


This role owns the facility’s ammonia refrigeration program, including day-to-day operational oversight, preventive maintenance, mechanical integrity, contractor coordination, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. The Facilities Manager is also a key site leader for Process Safety Management (PSM) and related ammonia regulatory programs, ensuring systems are properly maintained, documented, audited, and operated in accordance with company standards and applicable regulations. This position requires a hands-on technical leader with strong refrigeration and utilities experience, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to lead both internal maintenance personnel and outside contractors.

  

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with flexibility to support business and operational needs.

*On-Call Requirements: Participation in an on-call rotation is required to provide plant support, including occasional evenings, weekends, and emergency response as needed.

Location: Walton, Kentucky

Travel Requirements: Less than 5%

Work environment: Primarily based in a manufacturing facility with regular exposure to production, maintenance, and utility operations. Frequent interaction with equipment, machinery, and industrial systems is required.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the site's ammonia refrigeration and Process Safety Management (PSM) program, ensuring compliance with OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, IIAR, and all applicable regulatory and company requirements.
  • Manage the operation, maintenance, reliability, and continuous improvement of critical plant utility and facility systems, including ammonia refrigeration, boilers, compressed air, HVAC, water treatment, fire protection, and building infrastructure.
  • Oversee PSM program elements, mechanical integrity, emergency response readiness, process hazard analyses (PHAs), management of change (MOC), compliance audits, incident investigations, and corrective action implementation.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor preventive and predictive maintenance programs while ensuring accurate CMMS documentation and equipment records.
  • Lead and develop facilities, utilities, and refrigeration personnel by promoting safe work practices, technical expertise, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.
  • Manage contractors and facility-related projects, including scope development, vendor selection, project execution, and compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Monitor utility performance, equipment reliability, energy usage, and operating costs, driving continuous improvement initiatives to maximize system uptime and efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and support regulatory, insurance, food safety, environmental, and third-party audits while ensuring ongoing compliance with GMP, SQF, and company standards.


Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong technical depth in ammonia refrigeration and industrial utilities.

  • Ability to balance production support with regulatory discipline.
  • Clear communication with operations, maintenance, EHS, engineering, and contractors.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in industrial facilities, utilities, refrigeration, or maintenance leadership.
  • Strong hands-on experience with industrial ammonia refrigeration systems.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of PSM and ammonia compliance programs.
  • Experience with boilers, steam systems, air compressors, HVAC, and plant utility systems.
  • Experience leading maintenance or facilities technicians.
  • Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance, mechanical integrity, troubleshooting, and reliability practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, equipment manuals, and code requirements.
  • Strong contractor management and project execution skills.
  • Working knowledge of CMMS systems.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to support a 24/7 manufacturing environment as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Food, beverage, dairy, cold storage, or pharmaceutical manufacturing experience.
  • RETA certification, such as CARO or CIRO.
  • Boiler operator license or documented boiler operations experience.
  • Experience with IIAR standards and ammonia refrigeration best practices.
  • Experience managing EPA RMP requirements.
  • Experience with SQF, GMP, FDA, or food safety audit environments.
  • Experience with energy reduction, compressed air optimization, steam efficiency, and utility reliability programs.
  • Experience managing capital projects and utility infrastructure upgrades.
  • Experience with PLCs, controls, SCADA, refrigeration controls, or building automation systems.
