Position Type: On-Call / Pool

Reports To: School Principal or Designated Administrator

Compensation:

1 Day: $150 for a whole day with a lunch break 

3 Days in a row: $375 whole days with a lunch break 

5 days in a row: $550  whole week with a lunch break.


Job Goal

To provide high-quality instructional continuity for middle school students in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The substitute teacher ensures that students remain engaged, safe, and productive while following the established curriculum.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Instructional Delivery: Implement lesson plans provided by the absent teacher. For grades 5–8, this often involves leading discussions, explaining complex concepts in subjects like Pre-Algebra, Earth Science, or English Language Arts, and facilitating group work.
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a positive and disciplined learning environment. Middle schoolers require a firm yet empathetic approach to behavior management and adherence to the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Safety & Supervision: Supervise students throughout the day, including in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, and during dismissal.
  • Reporting: Maintain accurate attendance records and provide a summary of the day’s progress (the "sub report") for the returning teacher, noting any behavioral issues or academic milestones reached.
  • Adaptability: Be prepared to pivot between subjects or grade levels (5th–8th) depending on the daily needs of the school.
  • Technology Integration: Utilize classroom technology such as interactive whiteboards, learning management systems (e.g., Google Classroom, Canvas), and student Chromebooks.
Requirements

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: * Minimum: High School Diploma or GED.
    • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Clearances: Must pass a State and FBI criminal background check and fingerprinting.
  • Skills: Strong communication, patience with adolescent learners, and the ability to follow complex written instructions.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and move quickly through the camus 
  • Environment: Fast-paced, dynamic classroom settings with diverse student populations.
  • Schedule: On-call availability during school hours (typically 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM).
