Description
Under direct supervision, oversees the operation and production of a number of tables and other assembly devices producing materials and parts for assembly into a variety of wood based components.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assemble precut wooden parts to build trusses and similar supports.
- Move specified precut parts to work area and positions parts in jig by hand.
- Following supervisor’s’ instructions and blueprint specifications.
- Places metal reinforcement plates over connecting joints connect parts at joints, using hammer, pneumatic staple gun.
- Verifies dimensions of precut parts and accuracy of assembly.
- Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injury to self or co-workers; attends periodic safety meetings as required; may recommend changes to improve safety procedures.
- Other duties may be assigned.
COMPETENCIES
- Knowledge of construction tools and practices a plus.
- Knowledge of safety procedures while performing lumber handling and sawing tasks
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
- Ability to read and understand simple diagrams or blueprints.
- Knowledge of basic math, angles and use of measuring tools
Requirements
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL ACTIVITY The work environment and physical activity described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Work is performed within a production environment, subject to temperature variations, mechanical parts, increased noise levels and dust.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently and on occasion up to 120 pounds.
- May be required to perform specific tasks that involve climbing, lifting, pushing or kneeling.
