Description

The Materials Specialist is responsible for inventory control and logistics operations, ensuring material accuracy through rigorous cycle counting and optimized warehouse workflows. This role’s purpose is to develop and improve the standard operating procedures for materials from receiving, to storage and production usage, through shipping. This position is considered the subject matter expert in those processes and will train and mentor team members, as well as coverage for absenteeism.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage Inventory Control: Lead cycle counting programs and investigate variances.
  • Optimize Logistics: Coordinate incoming shipments and track outgoing material deliveries.
  • Maintain System Accuracy: Update the ERP system to reflect real-time stock levels.
  • Organize Warehouse: Arrange storage locations to maximize space and picking efficiency.
  • Audit Documentation: Verify packing slips, bills of lading, and purchase orders. Prepares and maintains records of materials      received and shipped including dates of transactions, locations, and other pertinent information. Conducts daily inspections, ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and international laws, regulations, and policies. Monitors inventory movement using software applications and physical inventory count.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work with purchasing and production to prevent material shortages. Work with client care and sales on shipping or logistics plans and issues.
  • Material Handling Coverage: Receives, distributes, and stores products as directed in designated, secure locations. Transports and loads materials, supplies, and finished goods (manually and/or using hand trucks and skids). Collects and properly disposes of scrap bracing, cardboard, and strapping; maintains a safe and clean work environment.
Requirements
  • Experience: 2+ years in warehouse logistics or inventory control
  • Education: High School Diploma required; Associate degree preferred
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with ERP/MRP software and Excel certifications
  • Forklift certification is a plus
  • Interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Basic understanding of truck freight rates
  • Strong understanding of applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements and other related safety policies and best practices
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to monitor and maintain records and inventory
