JOB SUMMARY
This is an ideal opportunity to experience a growing organization with a strong family culture. Shepherd Insurance is a privately-owned insurance agency that has delivered risk management solutions since 1977. With a wide variety of insurance and financial products, we are among the largest independent agencies in the country.
This internship begins as rotational insurance program focusing within the following divisions: Personal Lines, Commercial Lines, and Employee Benefits as well as Financial Services. The intern will have the opportunity to shadow Account Managers, Insurance Advisors, Sales Executives, Account Coordinators, and leaders within the organization.
After shadowing is complete, the intern will choose a specific focus in a division and will be assigned more specific tasks and projects, being exposed to a more day-to-day workflow. Interns will also have the opportunity to meet with and learn more about carriers and brokerages, participate in a volunteer event to give back to the community, and visit other local offices. The internship will culminate in a presentation of a term project to the leaders, managers, and teammates at Shepherd Insurance. The goal of this internship opportunity is to spark interest in full-time employment upon graduation.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Shadowing key roles across divisions through observing and learning from Account Managers, Insurance Advisors, Sales Executives, and Account Coordinators.
- Complete weekly tasks and assignments to further develop insurance industry and organizational knowledge.
- Participate in meetings and sessions with insurance carriers and brokers to understand market relationships and product offerings.
- After shadowing, select placement area and contribute to real-world tasks and projects aligned with that division’s daily operations.
- Build relationships with mentors and peers, participate in professional networking opportunities.
- Attend numerous continuing education and learning sessions, as applicable.
- Develop and deliver a final presentation summarizing your internship experience and project outcomes to organizational leadership.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Junior/Senior Level students with degree or secondary degree is not required but preferred in Risk Management and Insurance. Related majors, preferred, include Finance, Business Administration, Marketing, Professional Selling, and Business Management.
